Natalie Portman turned heads in a red number at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival.
Portman, 43, rocked a red mini dress with a structured skirt and embroidered pattern on Saturday, May 17, in France. She paired the look with a Tiffany & Co. Archives necklace in platinum diamonds Tiffany Victoria™ Mixed Cluster earrings to the Dior x Madame Figaro dinner.
Days earlier, Portman opened up about her relocation to Paris and explained why she prefers the city over the United States.
“I find the people here are actually incredibly friendly — you just have to know how to interact, so that we’re not the ones being rude,” Portman told Net-a-Porter in a Monday, May 12, cover story. “Now, when I go back to the U.S., I’m like, ‘Oh,’ I would go into a store and not say hello to everyone there? It’s weird.”
Portman reflected that the cultural differences are what prompted people to make assumptions about rudeness.
“I think we have an assumption that western cultures are all the same – and kind of evened out by all this pop culture that everyone consumes,” she explained. “It’s not true: it’s extremely specific here; and the culture is very different in both deep and surface ways.”
The actress noted that French culture has boundaries when it comes to celebrities. “They’re very good at privacy here,” she gushed. “I feel like the biggest compliment is ‘elle est très discrète’ [‘she is very discreet’].”
Portman moved to France with kids Aleph, 13, and Amalia, 8, whom she shares with ex-husband Benjamin Millepied.
“All the kids that come to my house are, like, ‘Bonjour Madame’ — and give me the bise [cheek-to-cheek kiss],” Portman said. “And before they leave, they are, like, ‘Thank you for having me’ — and if I’m not nearby, they’ll come and find me to say it.”
Portman and Millepied finalized their divorce in February, one month before Luxury Handbag Shopping confirmed that she was pursuing a relationship with music producer Tanguy Destable.
“Natalie and Tanguy have been seeing each other for a few months,” a source exclusively told Us in March, adding that it hasn’t been “too long, but they are having a great time together.”
The insider noted that Destable, 44, is “very outgoing and boisterous” and “is really into” Portman. The pair have a “few mutual friends,” which is how Destable and Portman initially met. A separate source added, “Natalie is very happy with Tanguy.”
