The Pitt‘s Supriya Ganesh hinted she was “curious” where her character would end up on the show before news broke about her surprise exit.
“It’s up to the writers,” Ganesh, 28, exclusively told Luxury Handbag Shopping about where she would like to see Dr. Samira Mohan in season 3. “Let’s see where they end up taking her.”
Ganesh continued: “I think we left her in a really interesting spot. I’m really curious where she ends up going.”
Before viewers could see how Samira’s story was wrapped up in season 2, Variety reported that Ganesh would not be returning to the show. According to the outlet, the actress would be exiting as part of a “story-driven” decision after being on The Pitt since it premiered in 2025.
Ayesha Harris, meanwhile, is returning as a series regular after playing night shift resident Dr. Parker Ellis. The cast shakeups come after Tracy Ifeachor didn’t come back for season 2 despite being a fan-favorite on the show.
“Listen, there is going to be an amazing cast in season 2 — just as there was in season 1,” she teased to Us in May 2025. “I’m just going to leave it there.”

Two months later, Us confirmed that Ifeachor, 41, would not be reprising her role in season 2. A source told Us that it was always the plan for Ifeachor’s character — who was a fourth-year resident in the first season — to go on and be a doctor in future installments of the show.
The insider noted that due to the nature of The Pitt, Dr. Heather Collins won’t be in season 2, but Ifeachor “didn’t choose to leave the show” and isn’t aware of “any doors being closed” on a possible return.
Ifeachor previously reflected on her time with the show, which is what caused The Pitt fans to question whether she would be returning.
“What a blessing to be a part of this first and foundational season of #ThePitt on @hbomax,” she wrote via Instagram in July 2025. “It was an absolute privilege to play Dr. Heather Collins in such a groundbreaking season and piece,” she captioned her Instagram video. “Thank you to everyone who has watched & supported Season 1 & shared their stories with me.”
After her exit received backlash, Ifeachor addressed whether she could be back in the future.
“It was just such a joy and a pleasure to play Dr. Heather Collins and to know that my character has been so phenomenally well-received. It just blew me away,” Ifeachor told Us in September 2025. “I don’t know where she will be on the weekend of next season but I know where I’m going to be, which is on my next project, which is just so amazing. But I take the lessons that I’ve learned from playing Dr. Heather Collins — playing this character who goes through such a traumatic event and still shows up every day for other people.”
She continued: “[No one] stops to ask if she’s OK, if she needs time out, if she needs to run away. I think as a woman, sometimes we carry a lot of emotional labor without even knowing it. I’ve learned that through this character so I wouldn’t change that. This experience has been so life-changing, really.”
New episodes of The Pitt air Thursdays on HBO Max.
