The Pitt is losing another main cast member in a surprising exit ahead of season 3.
Supriya Ganesh will not be returning as Dr. Samira Mohan, according to Variety. The actress, 28, who has been on the show since its debut, is exiting as part of a “story-driven” decision. Ayesha Harris, meanwhile, is returning as a series regular after playing night shift resident Dr. Parker Ellis.
The outlet reported that since the fictional Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center is a teaching hospital, it is normal for residents to come in and out. The hit HBO Max show will likely write off Dr. Mohan by having her move on to a new opportunity after her residency ends.
Before the shocking news, Ganesh spoke exclusively to Luxury Handbag Shopping about the future of the show.
“It’s up to the writers. Let’s see where they end up taking her,” she teased in February about Samira’s potential arc in season 3. “I think we left her in a really interesting spot. I’m really curious where she ends up going.”
The Pitt, which premiered on HBO Max in January 2025, follows a group of employees at a fictional Pittsburgh hospital’s ER working a single 15-hour shift. It didn’t take long for Us to fall in love with the entire cast, including Dr. Robby (Noah Wyle), Dr. Langdon (Patrick Ball), Dana (Katherine LaNasa), Dr. Mohan (Ganesh), Dr. Cassie McKay (Fiona Dourif), Dr. King (Taylor Dearden), Dr. Santos (Isa Briones), Whitaker (Gerran Howell) and Javadi (Shabana Azeez).

After returning for season 2 earlier this year, the medical drama has already scored itself another renewal. It previously made headlines for surprise cast exits when Us confirmed in July 2025 that Tracy Ifeachor would not be reprising her role in season 2.
Amid reports that the decision was made by the show’s creative team, a source told Us that it was always the plan for Ifeachor’s character, Heather — who was a fourth-year resident in the first season — to go on and be a doctor in future installments of the show.
The insider noted that due to the nature of The Pitt, Collins wouldn’t be in season 2, but Ifeachor “didn’t choose to leave the show” and wasn’t aware of “any doors being closed” on a possible return.
“It was just such a joy and a pleasure to play Dr. Heather Collins and to know that my character has been so phenomenally well-received. It just blew me away,” Ifeachor told Us in September 2025. “I don’t know where she will be on the weekend of next season but I know where I’m going to be, which is on my next project, which is just so amazing. But I take the lessons that I’ve learned from playing Dr. Heather Collins — playing this character who goes through such a traumatic event and still shows up every day for other people.”
She continued: “[No one] stops to ask if she’s OK, if she needs time out, if she needs to run away. I think as a woman, sometimes we carry a lot of emotional labor without even knowing it. I’ve learned that through this character so I wouldn’t change that. This experience has been so life-changing, really.”
New episodes of The Pitt air Thursdays on HBO Max.
