A very naive suspect in a Boston stabbing was arrested by police this week after he allegedly returned to the crime scene in an attempt to find his lost phone — while the cops were still processing it.

Two suspects donning ski masks allegedly approached a man on Paris Street at around 10 p.m. on the night of Tuesday, March 17, intent on robbing him. But when the victim refused to comply and hand over his personal belongings, including an electric scooter, one of the suspects stabbed him, according to Boston Police.

The victim told police that he tried to flee the pair, but the two quickly caught up to him.

“At this time, a witness who observed the altercation exited his vehicle in an effort to help the victim, eventually removing a knife from one of the suspects, which he then discarded,” police said in a statement on the incident. “A second witness stated he observed the two suspects making jabbing gestures towards the victim’s body. The suspects then fled the area.”

The stabbing victim was taken by ambulance to an area hospital for treatment. He is expected to recover from his stab wound, police said. It was unclear if he was released or remains in the hospital.

Officers who were called to the scene of the stabbing started scanning the immediate area, eventually finding a pair of knives they said were wrapped together with duct tape. They also found a cellphone, according to a statement from police.

Boston Police said they also soon noticed that there was a 15-year-old male milling about nearby who eventually told officers he was in the area because “he was looking for his cellphone.”

Investigators had a hunch that the phone they had recovered belonged to the 15-year-old, and the teen was detained, according to the statement.

Police searched the boy, finding a ski mask in his possession, they alleged.

The teen is a Boston resident, police said.

The teen, whose name is being withheld due to his young age, was charged with single counts of aggravated assault and armed and masked robbery, police said.

He was arraigned earlier this week in Suffolk County Juvenile Court, but the outcome of that proceeding was unclear on Friday, March 20.

The boy was eventually released to the custody of his parents.

Boston Police are still working on identifying the other masked suspect, they said.
