Authorities in Indiana are searching for a missing 17-year-old girl who has not been seen by her family for days, police said.
Hailey Buzbee, of Fishers, was last seen at her home the evening of Monday, January 5, according to the Fishers Police Department.
Her family, who alerted police about her disappearance, believe she ran away from their house, the department said in a news release on Wednesday, January 7. The city of Fishers is about a 20-mile drive northeast from Indianapolis.
“Our officers and detectives continue working around the clock to determine Buzbee’s whereabouts,” Fishers police spokesperson Kelsey Ramsey told Luxury Handbag Shopping via email on Friday, January 8.
Investigators have been speaking with her family, friends and “anyone who knows her” in their search efforts, Ramsey said.
“We are also canvassing neighborhoods and reviewing any available surveillance and home security footage that may provide any additional information on her movements the night she left,” Ramsey added.
In an interview with WIBC Hailey Buzbee’s father, Beau Buzbee, told the radio station that his family had a “normal, good day” on January 5. Beau said he believes his daughter was helped in leaving their house.
“The way that she executed this makes me believe that it was above her skill level and she was assisted,” Beau told WIBC.
“She left the house without a lot of items that she would need to do this on her own… someone is assisting her because she does not have the resources,” Beau added.
Hailey, who has brown eyes and brown hair, was wearing a white blouse, a black puffer jacket, gray jeans and had a pink Vera Bradley duffle bag when her family last saw her, according to police.
Hailey’s social media and online activity are being examined by police in their investigation, according to the radio station.
“I have faith that the love for others in this world is going to find my beautiful daughter and bring her back to me safe,” Beau wrote in a Wednesday, January 7 Facebook post.
Ramsey told Us that investigators “are continuing to investigate all circumstances in this case and are not ruling out any possibilities at this stage.”
“The primary message we want to emphasize is that this remains an active investigation, and we encourage anyone with information related to Hailey’s whereabouts to contact the Fishers Police Department,” Ramsey said.
The department can be reached at 317-773-1282.
The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children has also put out an alert over Hailey’s disappearance.
The private non-profit organization is dedicated to helping law enforcement find missing children and teens as well as efforts to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse.
In 2024, the center worked with the authorities on 29,568 cases of children reported missing. Of those cases, the organization said 91% of the children were found.
It is estimated that more than 460,000 children are reported missing in the U.S. every year, according to the National Child Protection Task Force.
