An Indiana court official has taken legal action to stop a man who has been described as a “sexually violent predator” from marrying a 22-year-old woman, according to a report.

Bradley D. Armstrong was arrested just before his wedding ceremony in La Porte County back on March 17, when the La Porte County Sheriff’s Office announced that he had falsified an application to obtain a marriage license.

“Like something straight out of the Wedding Crashers film, Sergeant Swanson and Deputy Ryan crashed an about-to-be wedding ceremony earlier today at the La Porte County Courthouse and arrested the groom,” the sheriff’s office said.

Armstrong, 66, did not identify himself as a convicted violent sex offender on his marriage license application, the La Porte County Sheriff’s Office said in a March 17 news release.

He was charged with false information in a marriage license application, which is a level 6 felony in the state, as a result, according to the authorities.

On Monday, March 30, a hearing was held on a motion filed by LaPorte County Clerk Heather Stevens, who is asking the court to prevent the marriage between Armstrong and the woman he was about to marry, WSBT-TV reported.

“It is in the hands of the court,” Stevens told the TV station. “I’m confident they are going to do the right thing.”

Stevens said that she filed the motion because she is concerned for the woman, who is pregnant with a baby reported to be Armstrong’s, according to WSBT-TV.

After the woman was deemed “incompetent” in connection with certain medical conditions in a 2021 court ruling, her parents have remained as her legal guardians, the TV station reported.

In Stevens’ motion, she argued that she has the authority to take legal action in support of the woman because her position within the court system allows her to act as a “superior guardian,” according to the TV station.

Armstrong became a convicted sex offender in 2002 in connection with child molestation, according to a sex offender registry maintained by the La Porte County Sheriff’s Office.

He is listed as a “sexually violent predator” on the registry.

Following Armstrong’s arrest on March 17, he was arrested a second time, the La Porte County Sheriff’s Office said in a Wednesday, April 1, news release.

He has been charged with failure of a sex offender to possess a valid identification, which is a level 6 felony, according to the sheriff’s office.

Armstrong is representing himself in his pending criminal cases, court records viewed by Luxury Handbag Shopping show.

His contact information was not immediately listed in court records.
