A Las Vegas man who teaches at a charter school has been accused of sexual assault by one of his students, Luxury Handbag Shopping has learned.

An arrest report obtained from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department confirms Francisco Misajon, 48, is alleged to have touched a boy while teaching at Innovations International Charter School.

Misajon was charged with lewdness with a child under 14 years old on January 6 — a day after he was taken into police custody.

According to the arrest report, Las Vegas Metro Police got a call about a teacher who reportedly touched a student’s groin.

When the boy asked him for help with an assignment, Misajon allegedly pulled up a chair next to him and asked the student to sit down. While the boy was sitting, Misajon allegedly grabbed the boy’s genitals. After the sexual assault, the boy ran to the nurse’s office and called his mom to come pick him up. She reported Misajon after the boy told his mother what happened.

When police tried speaking to Misajon, he refused to talk. Later, he did tell police that the student had dropped his paper, and that as Misajon bent down to grab it, he accidentally touched the student’s leg. He also accused the student of lying.

In time, though, Misajon allegedly admitted to police he just wanted to check the kid’s private part to know if he was a “grown man” or “to see if his private part was grown.” He also allegedly came clean to cops about another kid in his class he said he touched.

Misajon said this is his first experience teaching in America after being an educator in the Philippines.

He has been placed on administrative leave pending the results of the ongoing investigation.

Misajon remains in jail on $200,000 bail and will appear in court next on January 22.

KSNV spoke to parents who said they were shocked to learn about the teacher’s arrest from news reports.

“Are you freaking serious? And they didn’t tell nobody, they didn’t want no parent [to know] about what was going on,” one parent told the station Monday afternoon. “That’s not fair to us. We need to know what’s going on at all times. Our kids are here.”

The school’s business director told the station they could not comment due to the ongoing nature of the criminal investigation, saying only that “we are working with our counsel and LVMPD.”

The State Public Charter School Authority Executive Director, Melissa Mackedon, said in a statement to KSNV the school has communicated with families through Infinite Campus, a web-based K-12 student information system used by school districts nationwide.

She confirmed that Misajon underwent a criminal background check prior to his hiring.

“While this matter is under investigation, the school has taken immediate steps to protect students and is following established protocols and required legal processes,” Mackedon said. “The SPCSA is closely monitoring the situation and working with the school, law enforcement, and legal counsel to ensure appropriate actions are taken.”
