A man accused of sexually exploiting a toddler and a woman who allegedly sex trafficked a missing 17-year-old are among 89 people who were recently arrested in a Florida human trafficking sting operation, according to authorities.
The 2-year-old and the teen were both rescued during the undercover operation led by the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, the agency said in a Tuesday, March 3, news release.
Peter Torres was arrested in connection with the toddler’s alleged sexual exploitation, after the sheriff’s office said the agency received an online tip that Torres had been abusing the child while they were asleep.
Torres, 42, is facing charges of lewd or lascivious exhibition, two counts of solicitation or possession of child pornography, possession of child pornography with intent to promote, use of a child in a sexual performance, and two counts of in state transmission of child pornography by electric device, according to the sheriff’s office.
The charges stem from incidents on December 9 and December 11, 2025, court records viewed by Luxury Handbag Shopping show.
The woman accused of exploiting the missing 17-year-old for commercial sex was identified as alleged trafficker Armani Hopkins, according to the sheriff’s office.
Hopkins, 22, is charged with human trafficking for commercial sexual activity in connection with a victim under 18, the sheriff’s office said.
The trafficking of the teen allegedly began January 6, according to court records.
Both Torres and Hopkins are represented by the Hillsborough County Public Defender’s Office, which did not immediately return Us’ request for comment on Wednesday, March 4.
Another person arrested during the sting operation, which went on between January 1 and February 6, includes a Hillsborough High School math teacher, Stephen Fabic, according to authorities.
Fabic, 41, was arrested after authorities said he was communicating with “someone he believed to be a minor.”
Fabic had plans to pick up the fake teenager and allegedly wanted to “bring them to his home” for sex acts, according to the sheriff’s office.
He now faces charges of harmful explicit communication to a minor, traveling to meet a minor after using computer services/devices to solicit certain illegal acts, use of computer services or devices to solicit certain illegal acts, and lewd or lascivious battery (engage), the sheriff’s office said.
Fabic, who worked for the Hillsborough County Public Schools district since September, was fired from his job as a math teacher, a district spokesperson, Tanya Arja, told the Tampa Bay Times.
He is represented by attorney Daniel P. Fischetti, who declined a request for comment from Us on March 4.
The sheriff’s office further noted a man who allegedly planned to have a ride share service pick up a minor “from their home and bring them to his residence to perform sexual acts” was also busted in the sting operation.
John Altieri thought that he had been sending explicit messages and videos to the minor, according to authorities.
However, Altieri, 69, had been communicating with an undercover detective, authorities said.
He is charged with lewd or lascivious battery (engage) attempt, use of computer services or devices to solicit certain illegal acts, traveling to meet a minor after using computer services/devices to solicit certain illegal acts, harmful explicit communication to a minor, use of computer services for lewd or lascivious exhibition, and two counts of violation of probation, according to the sheriff’s office.
Information on his legal representation was not immediately available on March 4.
In a statement, Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister said all 89 individuals who were arrested “were communicating with law enforcement” and had been unwittingly “arranging their own arrest.”
