Patrick Mahomes’ grandfather Larry “Randy” Martin has died after entering hospice last month.

Patrick’s mother, Randi Mahomes, announced her father’s passing on Friday, February 14.

“Hard to find the words of holding my father’s hand as he goes to Heaven,” she wrote via Instagram alongside a photo with her late father. “I know he’s in a better place. I love you daddy. Well done, good and faithful servant! Matthew 25:23.”

A close friend of Randi’s also released a statement about her father’s passing and his upcoming funeral, which will take place in their home state of Texas.

“As many have probably seen my bestie @randimahomes has had a hard week as she held the hand of her last living parent while he slipped into heaven,” Randi’s friend Teresa Jane wrote via Instagram on Friday, sharing a throwback photo of the father-daughter pair. “I can’t imagine the pain as I’m so blessed to not know it yet, but she is truly hurting, struggling, in complete heartache for the loss [of] her daddy!!”

Randy’s life will be remembered with a friends and family funeral service on Monday, February 17, in Henderson, Texas, with visitation for loved ones available an hour before the service.

“Thank you for all of the thoughts, prayers, and love as they need every ounce during this painful time of letting go,” Jane added on behalf of the Mahomes’ family.

Randy’s death comes less than one month after his daughter revealed he had entered hospice on January 24. “I’m at a loss for words,” Randi wrote via her Instagram Story at the time.

Over the years, Randi has kept her followers updated on her father’s health. Prior to entering hospice, her dad was admitted in September 2024 to the hospital due to an undisclosed illness. At the time, Randi asked “prayer warriors please pray for my daddy.”

That same weekend, Randi shared a photo of herself with her father watching son Patrick, 29, on TV from the hospital as he led the Kansas City Chiefs to a victory over the Los Angeles Chargers.

“Game day with my dad and Mia,” she captioned the Instagram Story, revealing that her 12-year-old daughter, Mia, who is Patrick’s half-sister, was also by her grandfather’s side.

Earlier this month, the patriarch was able to watch Patrick play in another Super Bowl, this time from hospice. Randi told People ahead of the Sunday, February 9, game that her dad was “hanging on” to see his grandson attempt to win his third championship in a row.

“I know that it has meant a lot to him,” she told the outlet, noting that Randy was aware of when the Super Bowl was taking place. “And I think he’s hanging on because he wants to see his grandson do an amazing thing or just let him play.”

Randi continued, “I mean, he must be such a proud grandpa, so proud. And my mom was very proud and his other grandparents [were too].”

Patrick has yet to publicly comment on his grandfather’s declining health or death. However, he did share a message to Chiefs fans after they lost to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday.

“Appreciate all the love and support from #ChiefsKingdom,” the quarterback shared via X after his team lost the big game 40-22. “I let y’all down today. I’ll always continue to work and try and learn and be better for it.”

He added, “Want to give thanks to God for every opportunity he has given me,” promising, “We will be back.”
