Authorities have new intelligence and leads to follow in the case of Savannah Guthrie’s missing mother, Nancy Guthrie, signaling what could be a major step forward in the search.

“I think that investigators are definitely closer,” Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos told NBC’s Liz Kreutz during a Today show interview that aired on Tuesday, March 3. “Now it’s time to just go to work.”

Nanos said they are reviewing footage of a car spotted driving by on the night of 84-year-old Nancy’s disappearance. “We’re aware of it and we’re looking into it. Just like any other piece of evidence,” he said.

Investigators are also looking into a backpack possibly purchased online as seen on the masked figure in Nest doorbell camera footage captured from Nancy’s home in Tucson, Arizona.

The FBI previously released images of a potential subject, described as a man who is 5-foot-9-inches to 5-foot-10-inches tall with an average build. He was also seen carrying a black, 25-liter backpack from Ozark Trail.

Nanos answered questions after a Fox News report published on February 26, in which a nearby resident said they caught 12 cars passing by on their street-facing Ring camera during the morning of Nancy’s suspected abduction. The recordings took place between midnight and 6 a.m. on February 1, and some of the activity occurred near the 2:30 a.m. mark, which is just before Nancy’s pacemaker device stopped syncing with her iPhone.

Nancy was reported missing by her family last month after she did not attend a virtual church service. She was last seen after attending a dinner with her family on January 31.

Amid the search for Nancy, there have also been multiple alleged ransom notes asking for Bitcoin and other forms of cryptocurrency.

Earlier this week, Savannah, 54, sister Annie Guthrie and Annie’s husband, Tommaso Cioni, were spotted at the site outside Nancy’s home on Monday, March 2.

The Today anchor shared a photo of the memorial outside of the property via Instagram and continued to plead for her mother’s safe return one month into the search.

“We feel the love and prayers from our neighbors, from the Tucson community and from around the country 💛,” she wrote. “Please don’t stop praying and hoping with us. Bring her home.”

Security expert Dan Donovan exclusively told Luxury Handbag Shopping that law enforcement’s approach has likely shifted from a frantic “race against the clock” to more of a “controlled operation” as the days continue to pass. Donovan added, “The family’s role is discipline, and the FBI’s role is pressure — quiet pressure.”
