The Bachelor alum Madison Prewett and husband Grant Troutt struggled with “temptation triggers” while they were saving themselves for marriage.
“Grant and I made the rule, we’re not allowed to lay on the couch. It even got to the point where it was like, I don’t even think we can be alone past 9 p.m.,” Prewett, 29, said during “The Candace Cameron Bure Podcast” on Tuesday, March 3. “You just have to put the boundaries in place, knowing your temptation triggers and the things that would typically cause you to fall into that sin.”
Prewett offered advice to listeners, saying they should “bring people in to hold you accountable” if there’s a struggle on their purity journey.
She also said knowing “your why” is important.
“Why am I pursuing purity? I’m not doing it to get a great job from the people around me,” Prewett added. “I want to live a life of purity because it pleases God and pushes me closer to him.”
For The Bachelor alum, specifically, the “best part” of her purity journey came when she was walking down the aisle to Troutt on their October 2022 wedding day.
“My husband is about to get all of me, body, soul and spirit,” she recalled thinking. “I’m not doing this to get something from God. I just realized that pursuing a life of purity just leads to more of God, and I just want more of God in my life.”
Even though she’s married, it’s “been such a blessing” for Prewett to “still pursue” her purity journey.
“It really does lead to a life of just authenticity, honesty and just feels so much lighter,” Prewett added. “I do want to just add that purity is possible.”
Although she knows it’s “really challenging” to stay pure, there will always be “an opportunity to choose purity.” The topic went further beyond just sex, as well.
“There will always be an opportunity to choose sin or choose purity. It is a pursuit of it as well as it is a defense. I know that a lot of times when we hear ‘purity culture,’ we just think defense, but there’s an offense to it too,” Prewett explained. “Sure, there are things that you can put up — boundaries and guardrails — but also there is a pursuit of holiness and goodness and righteousness and a life that honors God too.”
When Prewett went on Peter Weber’s season of The Bachelor in 2020, she revealed that she was saving herself for marriage. The former reality star never strayed from her beliefs, even wearing a veil embroidered with, “Worth the Wait” on her wedding day.
