Heidi Klum is sharing her secrets to keeping the spice alive and getting past the infamous “seven-year itch” in her marriage to Tom Kaulitz.
“It just comes naturally. … There’s no rule book to follow. I think it just comes naturally, or it doesn’t,” Klum, 52, exclusively tells Luxury Handbag Shopping while promoting her and Diplo’s new single, “Red Eye,” which is now available to stream on all platforms.
Klum and Kaulitz, 36, tied the knot in August 2019 after less than two years of dating. Through their marriage, the Tokio Hotel guitarist became a loving stepfather to Klum’s four kids, Leni, 21, Henry, 20, Johan, 19, and Lou, 16, whom the model shares with ex-husband Seal.
Klum tells Us that her favorite part of her marriage to Kaulitz is doing all the “everyday, normal things” together.
“From doing soft-boiled eggs in the morning until watching series together, to traveling, to going to my daughter’s choir concert coming up this Saturday. You know, when we all go together and have family special days. Everything is what makes it special,” she shares. “Big things and the small things.”
Klum adds, “I think it’s important that you spend time every day with someone you know that you love spending time with. Because I think every day, little normal things is what you know on those days you should be your happiest, because that’s what you have most of the time. Big moments, you know, that’s why they are big moments. I guess they don’t happen as much, but I think that the everyday moments are like, super important that you’re happy in those together, cooking together, making breakfast together, exercising together.”
The Germany’s Next Top Model host says she and her husband even frequently spend time together in the shower.

“That’s usually a very good time for us to debrief. You know, at the end of the day, when you do, like, a debriefing, and it’s always very good to,” she continues. “We have a big shower, we get to be in there debriefing what happened in the day.”
As Klum and Kaulitz enter year eight of their relationship, Klum says they never really went through the “seven-year itch,” which is a common belief that marriages go downhill after seven years together.
“So far, we’ve been on the up and up, and now, it can only get even better, because we just passed our seven-year itch,” she explains. “We are now in year eight, and I have to tell you, nothing was ever really even itchy. You know, now we’re already in eight.”
Klum also tells Us what Kaulitz thought of the playful and sexy music video for “Red Eye,” which marked the Project Runway host’s fourth single. In the stop-motion-style video, which will be out next month, Klum and Diplo, 47, play a couple in the middle of a fight.
“He thought that this was very unique and different,” Klum says of her husband. “Like, he loves the art part of it, because it’s not, like, done by video. It’s done all by photos. So, it’s a lot of photos after each other, so they’re all single frames. That’s why it looks kind of like a stop-motion film, and each and every page, so to speak, each and every photo had to be hand-painted. That’s why the music video is not out yet, but it’s going to be out in two weeks. People are painting … these artists, they’re painting each image. So it’s like a stop-motion film, basically.”
Klum continues, “Tom appreciates the art part of it. This is not like AI. You know, everything is done by AI, and everything is that quick on the computer, but this is not. We really had artists on there, like painting this fully, like, for real.”
