Amid the ongoing search for Nancy Guthrie, the FBI has reportedly enlisted the help of an investigator involved in another high-profile case.
“BREAKING: We have a good clue about what just happened at Nancy Guthrie’s home. FBI experts on video, imagery and physical science [were] seen carrying video forensics equipment into the tent. A prominent member of this team has worked other high-profile cases including the Bryan Kohberger investigation,” Fox News reporter Michael Ruiz wrote via X on Thursday, February 12, referring to the Idaho University murder case. (Kohberger ultimately pleaded guilty to four counts of first-degree murder and one count of felony burglary. He was sentenced to four lifetimes in prison without the possibility of parole.)
Ruiz continued, “Photos obtained by Fox News Digital appear to show investigators left carrying a diagram with human heights. I believe this expert may have been on scene to compare physical conditions to the Nest video in order to develop a suspect description.”
The update comes one day after investigators told NBC Tucson affiliate KVOA that a pair of black gloves were located in the expanded search around Nancy’s home. The gloves have been submitted for DNA analysis.

News broke on February 1 that the 84-year-old was reported missing. She was last seen on January 31 by daughter Annie Guthrie. (Nancy also shared daughter Savannah Guthrie and son Camron Guthrie with husband Charles Guthrie, who died at age 49 after a heart attack.)
Amid the ongoing search for Nancy, the FBI released the first black-and-white photos and video footage of a potential suspect on Tuesday, February 10. The person appeared to be armed with a gun in their waistband. In one video, a person used their fist — which was inside a glove — to attempt to cover the camera outside of Nancy’s residence. As the person turned around to walk toward the front entry way, they grabbed a branch and placed that over the camera.
“Additional recovered images from the same camera at Nancy Guthrie’s front door the morning of her disappearance, including two videos of the individual,” FBI Director Kash Patel wrote via X at the time. “Anyone with information, please contact 1-800-CALL-FBI or visit
http://tips.fbi.gov.”
Savannah reposted a clip via Instagram and wrote, “Someone out there recognizes this person. We believe she is still out there. Bring her home. Anyone with information, please contact 1-800-CALL-FBI (1-800-225-5324) or the Pima County Sheriff’s Department 520-351-4900.”
In a separate post, Savannah also shared images of the person and wrote, “We believe she is still alive. Bring her home. Anyone with information, please contact 1-800-CALL-FBI (1-800-225-5324) or the Pima County Sheriff’s Department 520-351-4900.”
Law enforcement confirmed hours later that the Pima County sheriff’s department, with assistance from the FBI, brought a person in for questioning. The person who was detained, identified as Carlos Palazuelos, was later released after being questioned by authorities.
Savannah, meanwhile, has been absent from her desk at the Today show since Nancy’s disappearance. She has, however, shared statements via social media, continuing to urge Nancy’s abductors to “bring her home.”
“Our lovely mom. 💛,” Savannah wrote via Instagram on Thursday, alongside home videos with Nancy. “We will never give up on her. thank you for your prayers and hope.”
