Phoebe Gates has reportedly broken up with longtime boyfriend Arthur Donald.
Gates, 22, and Donald, 26, are no longer dating, according to People. Luxury Handbag Shopping has reached out for comment.
While neither of the now-exes has publicly addressed their rumored split, Gates seemed to hint that she has already moved on.
“I’m dating a guy who literally doesn’t have Instagram,” Phoebe, the youngest daughter of Bill and Melinda Gates, said on the Thursday, September 4, episode of her “Burnouts” podcast. “He deletes it, and it’s amazing. It’s the best thing ever, and this is completely new for me. I’ve never been with someone like this.”
She continued, “I’m, like, ‘OK, sit down, bud, let me show you the new video we just dropped on the Phia account because I put my left itty into producing this thing. You’re going to sit here and you’re going to watch it.’ He’s, like, ‘OK.’”
Phoebe founded Phia, a fashion-focused app, with friend and “Burnouts” cohost Sophia Kianni.
“Honestly, having him not be on social media is so great,” Phoebe added.
While Phoebe did not name her apparent new beau, Donald is on social media with a private Instagram account.
Phoebe started dating Donald, who is one of the grandchildren of Sir Paul McCartney, in October 2023. He was even by Phoebe’s side when she graduated from Stanford University the next year.
“My boyfriend, Arthur, giving me a lift post-ceremony,” Phoebe captioned a Nylon photo essay in June 2024. “I can’t think of a better ending. It’s the end of one chapter, and beginning of another, and it was such a privilege to have this time with our family and friends to celebrate this.”
Phoebe and Arthur, one of the sons of Mary McCartney and Alistair Donald, long kept their relationship private. Phoebe wasn’t even aware of Arthur’s famed lineage when they started dating.
“I mean my family, like, we’re so nerdy, so I knew nothing about music,” she said on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast in April. “Like I knew about tech stuff growing up, not music stuff.”
According to Phoebe, Arthur wanted to impress her with his music knowledge and connections.
“He took me to an Elton John concert and Elton John comes out in like a bedazzled tracksuit,” she recalled. “I’m like, ‘Is Elton John gay?’ His entire family starts dying laughing and now we’ve been dating almost two years. Every time I see them they’re like, ‘Oh, is Elton John gay?’”
