Pope wears the camel-colored Doppio Drape Wool Cashmere Cucito A Mano Cape Coat by Max Mara (one of the show's go-to designers!) and pairs it with the Prada White Bauletto I Vit.Daino Talco Tu Purse.
But what's in the bag, gladiators may wonder? "Usually folders, pens, the phone on the show, and often a bottle of water to add a nice weight to the bag. And some panties in one episode!" Washington told Glamour.
"Our choice of the Max Mara suit, which is in a light green, is one that reflects the role Olivia is playing in this episode," costume designer Lyn Paolo told InStyle of the Matelasse Croc Stamp Dress. "The color and the silhouette are both out of character for Olivia but when you see the scene you will know why we made this choice."
The white hat's back on with this custom Louise Green fedora. "We found a company in L.A. who custom-made the hat for us," Paolo has said. "It was a kind of a lot of work to get the brim just right. It took three or four times to get it adjusted with the lighting and framing of Kerry's face. It wasn't what I initially had in mind, though I really like it now."
"This is a particularly difficult moment for her, with everything she has to deal with. We wanted her to be closed off emotionally, so she’s showing no skin at all," Paolo told Entertainment Weekly of the Alexander McQueen Navy Wool Crepe Peplum Fitted Band Collar jacket.
For the scene at the White House Correspondents' Dinner, the professional fixer wears a glam Rubin Singer gown. "Things aren’t working well for her, so I wanted something with hard edges. It still has that essence of the Olivia Pope palette, but it’s structured and architectural," Paolo told EW. "It’s sexy and its feminine, but there’s no sweetness to it. That’s what we wanted in that moment, because this is the tough Olivia."
