Melissa Rivers is drawing a line in the sand when it comes to the naked dress trend sweeping Hollywood — although there is one star who grabbed her attention by stepping “out of the box.”

The former Fashion Police star, 57, spoke to Luxury Handbag Shopping exclusively after the 83rd Golden Globe Awards on Sunday, January 11, revealing she wants the parade of barely-there gowns and strategic sheerness to come to an end.

“I need the naked dress to retire,” she told Us. “We have been seeing a naked dress since the late ‘90s with Zuhair Murad and Roberto Cavalli. And it just keeps going. At least we didn’t have the fear with being able to see people’s underwear, like I never bought into that.”

Rivers admitted that she wasn’t crazy about Jennifer Lawrence or Jennifer Lopez’s dresses this year, but still felt the Die My Love actress, 35, delivered a wow moment on the red carpet.

“You didn’t expect it from Jennifer Lawrence,” said Rivers. “I love that she did that.”

Lawrence hit the red carpet in a totally sheer couture Givenchy dress by Sarah Burton featuring floral embroidery, completing her look with a matching shawl and sparkling silver necklace.

Hairstylist Gregory Russell was the man behind the mane, giving her a soft and voluminous wave to pair with her fringe bangs. Her makeup artist Georgie Eisdell opted for a subtle yet chic glam.

As for Jennifer Lopez, who arrived in her own eye-catching look at the star-studded shindig, Rivers told Us, “We’ve seen her do it better, you know, and again, such a high bar.”

Lopez, 56, wore a sheer vintage Jean-Louis Scherrer haute couture gown featuring baroque-style brown lace appliqué and hand-placed stones with a mermaid-style bottom. She completed her look with a sleek updo, opting for a few face-framing pieces, and Sabyasachi jewelry.

Rivers noted that Lopez’s hair and makeup is “always perfect,” but she’s seen J. Lo in more stylish looks on the red carpet. (Scott Barnes did her glam for the evening, while her hair was styled by celebrity hairstylist Chris Appleton.)

“For Jennifer Lawrence to do that, I was like, holy s***,” she added. “Did I like the dress? Not particularly, but talking about stepping out of a box. Wow, and props for that.”

Rivers pointed out the style trends repeat over the years, explaining, “It’s all very cyclical.”

“We go from bright colors to black and white. We go from structured and architectural to floaty and ethereal. Then we go to old Hollywood glamour, and then we seem to circle, you know, and then we go back to cutouts, and we go back to naked.”

“I just want to see them look like movie stars,” Rivers said, noting how she likes a “big entrance.”

Rivers said the stars that caught her eyes this year were the Fanning sisters. “Dakota‘s always done great fashion, but Elle‘s been a fashion darling for years,” she told Us. “Elle looked amazing. She always looks amazing, but Dakota, I loved.”
