Margot Robbie hit the U.K. scene in a look that was sheer, sculpted and “made out of hair.”
The actress, 35, arrived in style for the London premiere of Wuthering Heights on Thursday, February 5, wearing a naked dress that was just as provocative as it was poetic. Robbie’s custom Dilara Findikoglu gown hugged her figure with corset-like precision, featuring braided strands that crisscrossed her torso, framing the bust and cinching the waist.
Olive-toned tresses feathered outward at the shoulders and hips, making a wild and regal sartorial statement that was fabulously styled by none other than Andrew Mukamal.
From the side and back, the floor-length number worn by Robbie revealed its most striking detail: an exposed spine traced with woven hair lacing that was finished in a textured, frayed flourish at the lower back.
She completed her look with a braided choker and minimal jewelry including dangling Jessica McCormack earrings, opting for a romantic updo with elegant curled strands framing her face.
“It’s more of a creation. You’re not even getting the full effect of it, but it’s made out of hair,” she told Who What Wear on the red carpet.
“It’s inspired by this bracelet,” Robbie continued as she pointed to her wrist. “This a replica of Charlotte Brontë‘s bracelet which was, they suspect, woven out of Anne and Emily’s hair.”
As for the symbolism, Robbie said, “It was a Victorian thing to make jewelry out of hair of loved ones.”
Robbie has been slaying the fashion game with her red carpet looks, previously dazzling in an ombré-chic Schiaparelli gown at the movie’s Los Angeles premiere on January 28. It was a strapless sweetheart design with a sheer bodice adorned with black lace, also featuring a massive bow on her back, and a black midsection with a cherry red hem that flared out.
She also donned the Cartier Taj Mahal necklace that once belonged to Elizabeth Taylor, which sold for $8.8 million in 2011. The late actress previously received the gift from husband Richard Burton for her milestone 40th birthday in 1972.
“This necklace and the diamond itself has a pretty incredible history and feels like a very romantic history, so it felt appropriate to match with our Schiaparelli gown,” she said on the red carpet.
Robbie stars in the new Wuthering Heights adaptation as Catherine Earnshaw alongside Euphoria star Jacob Elordi, who portrays Heathcliff in the upcoming film.
During a recent interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Robbie revealed that her girlfriends were practically “frothing at the mouth” when she screened the movie for her pals.
“They were like rabid dogs,” she told Jimmy Kimmel on the January 26 episode. “They were a couple of drinks in already, and then the movie started, and they were screaming so much.”
“And when Jacob came on screen, I think it registered on the Richter scale; they screamed so loud,” said Robbie. “Honestly, I was like, if he walked in right now, I think they would eat him. So it was safer that he wasn’t there.”
Wuthering Heights hits theaters on Valentine’s Day Friday, February 14.
