Rumors have been swirling around the internet that Kim Kardashian and Kanye West once tried to score their eldest daughter an ultra-rare Hermès bag only to be turned away.
The rare bag in question was a black alligator Mini Kelly — a tiny treasure that can fetch more than $75,000. However, Luxury Handbag Shopping has learned that Kardashian never tried to buy North West, 12, the item.
Speculation ignited after viral claims made in author and journalist Amy Odell’s latest “Back Row” newsletter, citing a former employee of the Beverly Hills boutique for her “Retail Confessions” series.
“Kanye West and Kim Kardashian wanted a Black Mini Kelly bag for North or something like that. And Hermès said no,” the insider claimed, per Page Six. “I have no idea why … I think at that point it goes through corporate, because if someone who’s that high profile wants something, then obviously they’re going to be photographed in it — and they don’t want just anyone photographed in it.”
“So you’d call the press office and be like, ‘Hey, so and so wants a handbag.’ And they’d usually say, ‘Cool.’ But for some reason they didn’t want North West to have an alligator Mini Kelly,” according to the newsletter.
Us has since confirmed that Kardashian, 45, didn’t try to get her daughter the petite handbag, which features a single top handle, a detachable shoulder strap and the chic Touret clasp.
The Skims cofounder already has a number of iconic bags from the French fashion house including a Hermès Himalaya Niloticus Crocodile Diamond Birkin, a coveted bag known for setting world records at auctions.
She also is the proud owner of a special custom Hermés purse painted by North when she was only 16 months old.
“Wearing my favorite bag painted by my little North 🎨,” Kardashian captioned her photo in 2014.
