A candy cane hair treatment? 'Tis the season!
With the holiday season in full swing, you're bound to be styling your hair quite a bit for the rest of the year. To help combat the harmful effects of hot tools and the harsh cold, Kyle White, a celeb-loved colorist at the Oscar Blandi salon, came up with three easy, at-home, holiday-themed hair remedies—using exactly what you'd find in your fridge this time of year.
Scroll down for the DIY recipes from White, who works with Robin Wright and Mariah Carey (to name a few).
Happy holidays to you! (And may Santa bring you Kate Middleton's perfect blowout.)
Champagne Rinse
Ingredients:
1/4 bottle of leftover champagne from the night before (drink up!)
Application:
1. Pop that bottle! Pour champagne on damp hair.
2. Gently pour the bubbly over your hair, using your fingers to gently comb the liquid through.
3. Rinse thoroughly.
4. Blow dry your hair as usual. If you want even more volume, spritz a little more champagne directly onto your roots before drying.
Yuletide Bonus:
"The golden color of champagne will bring out the golden tones in your highlights," White tells Luxury Handbag Shopping. "The consistency and effervescence of champagne gives the hair great volume, shine, and a gorgeous glow."
Candy Cane Clarifying Treatment
Ingredients:
1 cup of water
4 drops of peppermint oil
Application:
1. Mix together the water and oil, and apply onto the scalp in 1/4-inch sections.
2. Gradually work the liquid throughout the rest of your hair.
3. Thoroughly rinse with warm water, then finish with a cool shot.
Yuletide Bonus:
"Peppermint oil helps to balance the scalp's PH level. That tingling sensation you feel once it's on? That's the oil working to improve blood circulation and increase hair growth," the colorist says. "It’s astringent properties also help to unclog follicles, removing all dead skin cells or product building. So fresh, so clean!"
Eggnog Nourishing and Conditioning Treatment
Ingredients:
2 whole eggs
1 teaspoon of essential vanilla oil
Application:
1. Mix the eggs and vanilla together. Then, apply the combo to your hair from your roots to your ends.
2. Cover with a plastic cap; leave on for 5 to 15 minutes. The scalp's natural heat will open hair follicles, allowing the treatment to get to work.
3. Shampoo thoroughly (twice, if necessary).
Yuletide Bonus:
White tells Us, "Eggs are full of protein and packed with vitamins A, D, and E—all of which are great for maintaining shiny, healthy hair. As for the vanilla, it's a light moisturizer. It also eliminates undesirable smells. And, of course, the scent has been proving to have a calming effect."
