Travis Kelce’s new contract came with a surprising wrinkle as he prepares to continue his reign over Chiefs Kingdom.
Kelce, 36, signed a three-year, $54.735 million contract with the Kansas City Chiefs, NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport reported on Monday, March 23.
The first year of Kelce’s new contract is worth $12 million, plus an extra $3 million incentives.
In May, ESPN reported that Kelce was likely to return to the Chiefs on a one-year deal.
Despite the three-year extension, it remains highly unlikely that Kelce will play out the entirety of his contract. He and the Chiefs will have a chance to reassess things at the end of the 2026 season.
“If Kelce wants to continue playing after this season, the deal will be renegotiated next year,” NFL reporter Ari Meirov explained via X on Monday. “As currently structured, it’s set up for this to be his final season, after which he would retire — allowing the cap hits to be spread out over those added years.”
Kelce signed the contract on Monday and enthusiastically responded in a video posted to the Chiefs’ social media accounts.
“Chiefs Kingdom, let’s go baby! It’s official,” he said. “Excited for 2026 and just excited to put on a Chiefs uniform in front of you guys again. Let’s get Arrowhead rocking, baby! We’ll see you guys in a few months.”
“LETS GOOO 🔥🔥,” Brittany Mahomes, wife of Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, commented on the video.
Jake Paul wrote, “Congrats ⚡️⚡️⚡️.”
Before things get rolling, however, Kelce has major plans off the field. Earlier this month, Chiefs insider Nate Taylor hinted that Kelce and his fiancée, Taylor Swift, will get married “before training camp.”
Dates for this summer’s training camp have not been announced, but last year’s camp got underway on July 22.
When Kelce announced his intention to return for a 14th NFL season earlier this month, he explained how Swift, 36, inspired him to put off hanging up the cleats.
“We share the same love for what we do,” he said during a March 10 appearance on ESPN’s The Pat McAfee Show. “Fortunately, we’ve had this desire since we were kids in our selective professions. It’s amazing to see her keep going to the table, keep finding new things to write about, keep finding new melodies and things like that. On top of that, still seeing her have that love and joy in what she does.”
