About

The Last of Us, based on the video game of the same name, premiered via HBO in January 2023 and stars Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey as Joel and Ellie, respectively. The intense, yet emotional, series is mainly set 20 years after a fungal virus starts spreading globally creating a post-apocalyptic world that includes a new species, referred to as the Infected.

Joel and Ellie’s story begins in the Boston quarantine zone where they escape and start a cross-country road trip in order to find a cure for the virus. It’s eventually revealed that Ellie was bit by an Infected but did not turn, making her immune and, therefore, the cure.

The first season of The Last of Us scored 24 Emmy nominations, taking home eight trophies, including Best Guest Actor for Nick Offerman‘s performance as Bill and Best Guest Actress for Storm Reid’s portrayal of Riley.

Season 2, which debuts in April 2025, follows the next chapter of Joel and Ellie’s story.
