No Cinco de Mayo celebration is complete without food! To celebrate the holiday, which fell on Sunday, May 5, stars such as Kaley Cuoco, Lea Michele and others feasted on some tasty eats. Though the occasion is actually meant to commemorate the Mexican army’s victory over the French empire at the Battle of Puebla in 1862, in America it is typically observed by eating tacos and other Mexican food and sipping on margaritas.
Lea Michele, for example, marked the day by heading to La Super-Rica Taqueria in Santa Barbara, California, and chowing down on a table full of tacos and quesadillas, with plenty of hot sauce and fresh salsa on the side.
For Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, the holiday was less about what he was eating and more about what he was drinking. The Fast and the Furious star has spent the past several years working on his own tequila, which is expected to be released by the end of 2019 or in early 2020. At a surprise birthday celebration for the actor on Saturday, May 4, he revealed that an early batch of the spirit made its way to Los Angeles from one of his distilleries in Mexico, and he toasted with it as part of his own early celebration. “That is good s–t,” he said after taking a sip of his creation. “You are going to love it.”
Kaley Cuoco, on the other hand, marked Cinco de Mayo with a decidedly un-Mexican meal. Though she’s a fan of Mexican cuisine, the Big Bang Theory alum was under the weather, so her husband, Karl Cook, whipped up some ramen. “You’re the sweetest,” she told him, reminding him to leave mushrooms (one of her dislikes) out of the Japanese soup.
