Toni Braxton’s latest concert was cut short for a personal reason.
“My loves, I am so sorry I wasn’t able to finish the show last night,” Braxton, 58, wrote via her Instagram Story on Monday, March 23. “I had an unexpected personal emergency and had no choice but to step away.”
The “Un-Break My Heart” singer was performing at Target Center in Minneapolis on Sunday, March 22, as part of the New Edition Way Tour with Boyz II Men and New Edition.
According to concertgoers, Braxton was unable to finish her portion of the show.
“You deserved my everything and I hate that I couldn’t give it to you,” the Grammy winner shared in her statement. “I feel your love from here. Thank you for understanding.”
Braxton has expressed nothing but enthusiasm for her latest tour, which kicked off on January 28 and is expected to last until April 4.
“B-More, Jersey and Boston really showed up and showed out!” Braxton wrote via Instagram on February 18. “If you haven’t experienced the show yet, this is your reminder to get those tickets now!”
In a separate Instagram post from March 17, the singer added, “Thank you DMV for making me feel at home! Forever in my heart ❤️! Brooklyn you’re up next!!”
While it’s unclear what led to Braxton’s shortened set, the woman behind hits like “He Wasn’t Man Enough” and “Breathe Again” has been open about the difficulty of touring with systemic lupus erythematosus.
According to the Mayo Clinic, lupus is a condition in which the body’s immune system attacks its own tissues and organs. Lupus can cause inflammation, which may affect joints and other parts of the body.
Before kicking off a Las Vegas residency in 2024, Braxton opened up about what was on her mind as she tried to continue her musical dreams amid a serious health condition.
“I’ve been feeling OK, that’s been the anxiety, just making sure I’m ready,” Braxton told People in May 2024. “My doctor said I’m ready to go. I got checked off, everything’s good, but there is a little anxiety performing and having that health scare. But the man upstairs said it’s going to be OK, so I know I’m going to be alright.”
Earlier this month, Toni also marked the anniversary of her sister Traci’s death. In 2022, the Braxton Family Values star died at the age of 50 after a cancer diagnosis.
“My sister Traci — no one can ever compare,” Toni wrote via Instagram on March 12. “I miss you so much. Happy Heavenly Anniversary🕊️I know you’re singing your heart out up there.”
