Just because The Vampire Diaries is over doesn’t mean the offscreen romances between costars are.
Arielle Kebbel and Zach Roerig are the newest stars from the former hit CW series to confirm they are dating. Footage from a fan convention for the show earlier this month showed Roerig, who played Matt, surprising Kebbel, a.k.a Lexi, with flowers at the event before the couple shared a kiss.
“I love a couple 🥹 ❤️ The ultimate romantic,” read a translated Instagram post from an attendee, to which Kebbel replied, “❤️❤️❤️.”
Before hard launching their relationship in front of The Vampire Diaries fans, Kebbel and Roerig, 40, appeared to reconnect while filming Hallmark’s 2023 film Love in the Great Smoky Mountains: A National Park Romance where they played love interests.
Kebbel and Roerig aren’t the first costars to find love after both starring on The Vampire Diaries. Back in its heyday, The Vampire Diaries was known for connections on set with high-profile romances including Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder or Paul Wesley and Phoebe Tonkin.
The Vampire Diaries came to an end in 2017, but the franchise has continued with spinoffs including The Originals and Legacies. Off screen, The Vampire Diaries has inspired more long-lasting romance between couples such as Joseph Morgan and Persia White, who have been married since 2014.
More recently, Danielle Campbell and Colin Woodell celebrated more than five years of dating. There’s also Candice King and Steven Krueger, who also started dating after they attended the same cast conventions for the show following her divorce from Joe King.
“Anytime I’m walking around with Candice, it’s always like, ‘Oh my God Caroline!’ And then they do a double take and they’re like, ‘Oh, right. yeah. And what was your character’s name again? From The Originals?’ I’m like, ‘Yep, that was me,'” Krueger, 35, who played Josh on The Originals, joked during an exclusive interview with Luxury Handbag Shopping in February. “Yellowjackets is a little bit more in the zeitgeist right now and at the top of people’s minds. It’s definitely Yellowjackets at the moment.”
Krueger hinted that he wasn’t ruling out an onscreen collaboration with his girlfriend since they didn’t share the screen during their TVD days.
“It’d be really fun. We’re not the kind of people that are super precious about, like, ‘Oh, I need my space. I need to work and focus and all this,” he said about how he and King “would crush it” as costars. “I’m sure that’d be a great time. If you want to write a movie for us, by all means, go for it.”
Krueger continued: “We joked around about it. Part of the beauty of this industry is you never know what’s going to happen. We do have a lot of the same friends who are producers and writers so I’m sure that at some point somewhere down the road, that’s definitely a possibility.”
