Summer I Turned Pretty won’t be wasting any time in season 3 as Belly makes her final choice between Conrad and Jeremiah.

Creator Jenny Han, who also wrote the popular book series, took to social media on Friday, December 6, to tease the upcoming season, writing via Instagram, “One thing I’ll say about season 3 of [The Summer I Turned Pretty] … there are no filler episodes.”

Production recently wrapped on the third — and potentially final — season of The Summer I Turned Pretty. The Prime Video show takes inspiration from Han’s books, which focuses on Belly (Lola Tung) and her relationships with the Fisher brothers. After exploring her feelings for Conrad (Christopher Briney), she starts to reconsider whether his brother, Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno), is her perfect match.

In addition to the main trio, viewers have also learned more about Belly’s brother, Steven (Sean Kaufman), mom Laurel (Jackie Chung) and best friend Taylor (Rain Spencer). The final book in Han’s trilogy, We’ll Always Have Summer, ended with Belly choosing between the brothers, leading fans to think the third season will do the same.

Earlier this year, Han, 44, Tung, 22, Briney, 26, and Casalegno, 25, along with head of Amazon MGM Studios Jennifer Salke, announced that the third season is set to debut in summer 2025 with 11 new episodes.

The creative team behind The Summer I Turned Pretty has remained tight-lipped about whether the show will closely follow the events of the book series. Casalegno, however, previously showed his support for a different outcome of the central love triangle.

“I do feel like there’s a strong chance that that’s a possibility,” he exclusively told Luxury Handbag Shopping in June 2023 about the show potentially straying from the original events in the books. “Obviously, I know where [my character Jeremiah] ends up going and what ends up happening. But I don’t emphasize on that. Because I think Jenny writes it so well that I’m able to kind of get there naturally without having to force it in a certain direction.”

Han shared a similar sentiment while speaking to Variety in 2022 about adapting her books for Prime Video.

“I really had to weigh what the fans are expecting with where the show is going creatively and find that balance,” she explained. “My priority has always been that I want fans of the book to feel really satisfied by the story we’re telling, but also for them to know that this is an adaptation in a new medium, so it’s not going to be exactly the same. I think those are sort of the two things that are always in my head.

Han added: “I don’t want to spoil too much, but the books have been out for a while. You never know what could happen with the show. I was open minded going into it. I was considering a lot of different possibilities.”

Prime Video, meanwhile, seemingly has plans to expand the Summer I Turned Pretty universe.

“I will say stay tuned, but Jenny’s got some exciting surprises. So we’re thrilled about a season 3, and she’s got a vision for more,” Vernon Sanders, the head of television at Amazon and MGM Studios, told Deadline in September 2023. “This show is going to continue to be a huge centerpiece for us, and we absolutely have plans to continue building it. Jenny’s got great vision for where she wants to go with all of it, but we’re already hard at work developing complementary pieces.”

The Summer I Turned Pretty is currently streaming on Prime Video.
