Where there’s smoke, there’s fire, and there’s plenty of it in Apple TV+’s latest hit show, Smoke.
The mystery thriller stars Taron Egerton as Dave Gudsen, an arson detective investigating a series of fires raging throughout the Pacific Northwest. It seems like the work of not one but two arsonists, and he’s obsessed with catching them before another fire claims more lives.
By episode 2, it’s revealed that one of the arsonists is none other than Dave himself. It’s a shocking plot twist, but one that’s based in reality. The show was inspired by the real-life case of John Leonard Orr, a firefighter who was convicted of serial arson and murder in 1998. Why would a man like Dave, who is committed to capturing criminals, be one himself? And just why is he so obsessed with fire, anyway?
His partner, Detective Michelle Calderone (Jurnee Smollett), is just as driven as he is, but she knows next to nothing about Gudsen or what makes him tick.
‘Smoke’ Episode 4 Reveals a Tragic Event in Dave Gudsen’s Past
That all changes in Smoke‘s fourth episode, titled “Strawberry,” which gives more background into Gudsen’s past and the tragedy that continues to haunt him.
Luxury Handbag Shopping has an exclusive clip of a key scene in this episode when Dave, in a rare moment of vulnerability and honesty, opens up to Michelle about the disappearance of his mother when he was a child.
It’s a stunning confession, not only because it provides more insight into Gudsen, but also because it shows just how great of an actor Egerton is. If he isn’t nominated for an Emmy for his work in Smoke, that would be a travesty as upsetting as all those fires that are featured in the series.
When Does ‘Smoke’ Episode 4 Start Streaming?
