New details have emerged about former University of Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore allegedly breaking into the apartment of a football staff member, leading to his arrest.

On the night of the alleged incident, the female staff member told police “she has never been more terrified in her life,” according to court records obtained by the Detroit Free Press

“[The woman] advised that she was carrying her belongings downstairs to leave, and while inside of her apartment she heard footsteps outside,” the documents stated. “[She] indicated that she ran towards the door to secure it, but before she could, Mr. Moore swung the door open and barged into her apartment with tears in his eyes.”

The staff member alleged she was “approximately 5 feet from the door” when Moore, 39, entered her apartment on Wednesday, December 10.

“She advised that she began backing up and as he was approaching her,” the documents said. “[She] advised that Moore grabbed two knives out of her drawer and pointed them at her, ‘You ruined my life. You ruined my life.’”

According to the records, Moore admitted to having an affair with the woman but denied the allegations that he threatened or attacked her.

“Mr. Moore admitted to removing the knives and stated that he had threatened to kill himself,” the records said. “Mr. Moore denied physically assaulting [the woman] and denied threatening her with any weapons.”

Moore was charged with one count of third-degree felony home invasion, one count misdemeanor stalking related to a domestic relationship and one count misdemeanor breaking and entering on Friday, December 12.

The former head coach appeared via Zoom from a holding cell at the Washtenaw County Jail at an arraignment hearing on Friday. Moore was released on $25,000 bail and ordered to wear a GPS tether. He was also told to have no contact with the staff member and to continue mental health treatment.

During a 911 call on Wednesday, the woman said Moore was “attacking” her inside her apartment, but the ex head coach was not formally charged with any form of assault.

Washtenaw County Prosecutor Eli Savit explained his charging decision in a statement to the Free Press on Saturday, December 12.

“The evidence that is available at this time indicates that Mr. Moore had an intent to terrorize and harass the victim — which is the basis for the stalking charge,” Savit said. “Given that his statements were those of self-harm, however, there was not sufficient evidence to prove, beyond a reasonable doubt, an intent to assault or batter the victim.”

Savit added, “As indicated in our release [Friday] announcing charges against Mr. Moore, this matter remains under active investigation and, as with any case, we may add or amend charges as new evidence comes in.”

Moore was fired at the University of Michigan’s head football coach on Wednesday after an investigation uncovered “credible evidence” of an “inappropriate relationship” with a staff member.

He was taken into custody a little after 4 p.m. ET on Wednesday, after allegedly fleeing the woman’s apartment.

At the arraignment hearing on Friday, it was revealed that the staff member allegedly broke off their years-long relationship on December 8 and began cooperating with the university’s investigation.

Moore was spotted in public with his wife, Kelli, for the first time since his arrest in photos published by the Daily Mail on Sunday, December 14.

Sherrone and Kelli have been married since 2015 and share three daughters.
