Not watching Love Island USA meant Reasonable Doubt‘s Brandee Evans didn’t realize she was filming scenes with reality star Kordell Beckham.
During the Thursday, October 16, episode of the Hulu series, Evans’ character Monica shared the screen with Ozzie’s (Kyle Bary) friends — with one of the guys being played by Beckham.
“I’ve never seen Love Island. I didn’t know who Kordell was,” Evans exclusively told Luxury Handbag Shopping. “But I just knew he was so kind and then I just know who I met on that set. So I’m going to have to go watch Love Island USA now.”
Evans praised Beckham’s performance, adding, “I remember him just being so kind and so cute. … He was taking the director’s notes easily, he was fun to work with and he knew his stuff. It was great and I’m really excited for him. I hope his career does amazing after this.”
Reasonable Doubt, which premiered in 2022, follows a successful criminal defense lawyer at an upscale Los Angeles law firm. Evans, for her part, told Us that season 3 of the Hulu legal drama will include a new case involving Evans’ character, Monica.
“I’m very excited for everyone to see what happens. Because the best work to me is yet to come for Monica,” Evans teased to Us. “I can’t wait for you all to see it so people can see the different levels that I can do. People are so used to Mercedes [on P-Valley] and I love that Monica is so different.”
Evans also spoke about making an effort to not take the job home with her due to the heavy story lines.
“I learned on P-Valley how to unplug from the Matrix. I learned how to detach. I focus on watching something on TV, working out and talking to a therapist,” she shared. “Speaking of therapists, our creator Raamla Mohamed was so amazing with making sure that we had a therapist on set at all times so we felt safe. I had done the work outside and knew how to let it go. So I didn’t need the therapist on set but she was always there. I love that we always were protected from all levels.”
There was also an intimacy coordinator present on set. “That’s what I loved on this show. We all had each other’s backs and we felt safe. We had an amazing intimacy coordinator that always made sure we felt safe,” Evans noted. “I love that they never felt like you were just going to be OK. They always had someone there to protect us.”
In addition to Reasonable Doubt, Evans will also be reprising the lead role in season 3 of P-Valley, adding, “We do have season 3 coming and Mercedes is just waiting for her time to shine. Season 3 is life-changing.”
Evans continued: “P-Valley tells authentic stories, Reasonable Doubt tells authentic stories and I am [always looking for more] authentic stories. That’s what locks in for me. I do want to do some comedy and a rom-com. People are so used to seeing me do these heavy roles but I want you all to see fun Brandee.”
