Dead men tell no tales, but it looks like the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise has at least one more story in it. The fifth installment of the film series, Dead Men Tell No Tales, was officially given a release date of July 7, 2017.
Originally, the sequel was set to premiere in summer 2015, but after the $190 million flop that was summer 2013’s The Lone Ranger—starring Pirates’ Johnny Depp and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and co., the same team behind the franchise—the release was delayed to work on the Pirates script.
Depp, 51, is expected to reprise his iconic role as Captain Jack Sparrow, and IMDB also lists Oscar winners Christoph Waltz and Geoffrey Rush as his rumored costars.
Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley, who both bowed out of the franchise in 2007 after the third film At World’s End, have not been mentioned in casting talks for the fifth movie.
The fourth Pirates film, 2011’s On Stranger Tides, grossed $1.04 billion, and in total the four movies have brought in $3.7 billion at the global box office.
