Love Is Blind‘s Colleen Reed is sharing new details about her split from Matt Bolton — revealing why they waited “months” before announcing the news.
In Luxury Handbag Shopping‘s exclusive clip from the Wednesday, January 21, episode of “What’s the Reality?” podcast, Colleen spoke with Giannina Gibelli and Blake Horstmann about the breakup, admitting, “[When] we announced, we actually had not been together since November [2024]. It’s been about a year since we’ve been separated [or] broken up.”
Colleen and Matt “didn’t announce” the news until May 2025. “I was dealing through the process of the breakup for several months before I brought it to the public,” she explained. “I am so glad that we did that and I would say that he would agree with that as well.”
Giannina and Blake asked Colleen if it was her idea to wait, to which she replied they were on the same page. . “It was logistics in terms of the house because we lived together for those several months when we were separated. We just didn’t want to deal with all of that while we were dealing with our own chaos and sadness and heartbreak. I didn’t even want to have that in my eyesight.”
Colleen continued: “We both agreed upon like, ‘Let’s not say anything until we are not living together.’ So the day that I left — the day I moved out — was the day that we announced.”
Colleen and Matt confirmed last spring that they had separated after four years of marriage.

“We’ve been separated for some time now and have [done] our best to work through everything privately and with care,” they wrote in a joint Instagram statement at the time. “This was an incredibly difficult decision, not one we made lightly. It came with a lot of thought and it’s been an emotional process for both of us.”
The statement continued: “We met in the most unique and unexpected way, and we’ll always be grateful for the love and memories we’ve shared. There’s not one thing we would change and we continue to have deep respect and care for one another. Thank you to everyone who has supported us. We kindly ask for compassion as we navigate this transition.”
The former couple got engaged on season 3 of Love Is Blind. Weeks before announcing their breakup, Colleen exclusively told Us how she and Matt faced “so many challenges” since tying the knot.
“Of course, staying together, but also, I would say with all the audience and all the eyeballs is definitely the hardest to go through and all of the opinions and everything,” Colleen shared in April 2025. “I would say that was 100 percent the biggest challenge. But then, you have your own everyday challenges that you go through in a relationship and a marriage. With everything, it’s definitely a pressure cooker, so you just have to be strong with yourself and with your relationship.”
Colleen hinted that she and Matt didn’t have the same plans for their future.
“I feel like wherever the wind takes us at the moment. Nothing is really holding us down,” she added. “So, just kind of exploring our own careers, and we love Dallas. … We’re still really young. I mean, I turned 30 this year. So, still very young and going where the wind takes us.”
Colleen’s episode of the “What’s the Reality?” podcast premieres Wednesday, January 21, at 6 a.m. ET. on YouTube and everywhere else podcasts are available.
