The late Chadwick Boseman had a breakout performance as Jackie Robinson in 42. Robinson was famously the first player to break Major League Baseball’s color barrier in 1947. The film dramatizes Robinson’s recruitment to the Brooklyn Dodgers by team owner Branch Rickey (Harrison Ford).

Robinson faces intense pushback and racism, even from members of his own team. The biggest challenge in front of Robinson is the need to refrain from retaliating. His wife, Rachel Robinson (Nicole Beharie), and sportswriter Wendell Smith (André Holland) support Robinson’s quest to make a place for himself and other Black players who follow him. But this is a battle that Robinson will have to face on the field by himself.

42 is streaming on HBO Max through February 28.

In his desperation to get Nick back, Connie accidentally breaks out another inmate, Ray (Buddy Duress). Ray has a line on some drugs and dirty money that he stashed before his arrest, but Connie may not be able to trust him as they evade the police and attempt to retrieve the score.
