If there’s one thing Eddie Redmayne isn’t afraid of, it’s physically demanding roles! After nabbing the Oscar for his performance as Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything this year, the bold Brit has immediately leapt into the next challenge.
Redmayne, 33, is currently filming the new Tom Hooper film, The Danish Girl, in which he will play transgender pioneer Einar Wegener/Lili Elbe. The actor previously worked with famed director Hooper on 2012’s Les Miserables, for which he played Marius.
Set in the 1920s, The Danish Woman follows the true story of Wegener’s relationship with his wife Gerda Waud (Alicia Vikander). Painter Wegener begins to transition from a male to a female when he’s asked to dress in woman’s clothes after one of Waud’s models doesn’t show up.
Redmayne was spotted filming in Nyhavn, Copenhagen on Wednesday, March 25, wearing a long black peacoat with brown fur cuffs and a matching fur stole. He carried a purse and wore white tights with brown heels. He also sported what appeared to be a wavy bob wig.
The newly married actor already debuted his dolled-up makeup and hair in the film’s first official photo in late February.
At the time he told The Daily Mail, “I think it’s the most sensitive role I have played.”
