Demi Lovato is putting on her producer hat for Camp Rock 3.
Lovato, 33, shared the first photo of her on set via Instagram on Monday, September 29, sitting in her Camp Rock embossed chair after signing on to executive produce the film. The singer, who donned blue jeans and a leather jacket in the snap, wrote, “this is me (in my producer era).” The caption is a nod to the song “This Is Me,” which was sung by Lovato and costar Joe Jonas at the end of 2008’s Camp Rock.
While Joe, 36, and brothers Nick and Kevin Jonas will be guest-starring in Camp Rock 3, Lovato has only confirmed her involvement behind the camera — so far. In the comments section of the Instagram post, several fans begged Lovato to reprise her role of Mitchie Torres, the talented singer who was thrust into the spotlight for her captivating vocal abilities in the first two films.
“WE NEED MITCHIE!!!!!!!” one Instagram user wrote, while a second person said, “Girl, we want you in the movie smh,” in a comment translated to English.
“CAMP ROCK WITHOUT MITCHIE IS NOT CAMP ROCK,” a third person added in a comment translated to English, while a fourth wrote, “amazinggggg ❤️🔥 but girl we need you on THE SCREEN.”
The sequel, which follows 2010’s Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam, will explore a new generation of talented campers vying to become Connect 3’s (the Jonas Brothers) opening act. The musical’s plot teases “tensions rise and friendships are tested, leading to unexpected alliances, revelations and romances,” per a press release.
Liamani Segura, Malachi Barton, Lumi Pollack, Hudson Stone, Casey Trotter and Brooklynn Pitts were cast as campers in the film. Sherry Cola also joined the cast as a character named Lark.
“Camp Rock’s all-new campers include bold and determined Sage (Segura) and her easygoing brother Desi (Stone), cello prodigy Rosie (Pollack), drummer with his own beat Cliff (Trotter), choreo queen Callie (Pitts), intimidating influencer Madison (Jean) and camp bad boy Fletch (Barton),” the press release said.
Additionally, Maria Canals-Barrera will be returning as Connie Torres, Mitchie’s mom from the first two films.
One cast member who denied involvement in Camp Rock 3 was Alyson Stoner, who portrayed Caitlyn in Camp Rock and Camp Rock 2.
“I haven’t heard anything beyond that, but that sounds exciting,” they told E! News on September 20 after the third movie was confirmed.
Stoner, 32, continued, “I’m guessing it’ll be maybe similar to what they did with High School Musical, where maybe they introduce a new generation. That’s what I’m assuming. But cool. Sounds great.”
Still, Stoner seemed willing to contribute to the third movie in a different capacity, joking, “Let me know if you need a coordinator on set.”
The Suite Life of Zack & Cody alum previously revealed what it would take to get the entire original Camp Rock cast to agree to come back for the third film.
“I wonder where that plot line would go,” Stoner told People in June. “It would thicken. It would have to thicken quite a bit to get all of us back.”
