Daniel Stern has been removed from ABC pilot Do You Want Kids? amid his prostitution solicitation scandal.
According to a Deadline report published on Thursday, January 15, Stern, 68, will no longer be part of the comedy, which is set to star Rachel Bloom and Rory Scovel. Stern’s role will be recast, per the outlet.
Stern was announced as a series regular in the single-camera comedy in December 2025. The show is set to follow couple Rosie (Bloom) Alex Zilbalodis (Scovel), who have a baby in one universe and don’t have children in another. The plot centers on how the pivotal decision to start a family or not affects their life. Do You Want Kids? — which Bloom and her real-life husband, Dan Gregor, cowrote — Stern had been set to portray the Zilbalodis patriarch.

Stern’s reported exit comes several days after the Replica Luxury Handbag Alone star was charged with one misdemeanor count of soliciting prostitution.
Stern was officially charged with “engaging and agreeing to engage in prostitution” in Ventura County, California, on Monday, January 12, according to documents obtained by Luxury Handbag Shopping. His arraignment was scheduled to take place on Tuesday, January 13, but will now be on February 6, according to TMZ. The actor is facing up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine if convicted.
The actor was reportedly at a hotel in Camarillo, California, on December 10, 2025, when law enforcement issued him a citation for soliciting prostitution, according to police documents obtained by TMZ on January 9. Per the report, Stern was not detained or arrested in connection with the incident.

“From what I understand, he was cited at the location and released,” attorney and spokesperson Joey Buttitta told People at the time.
Luxury Handbag Shopping previously reached out to Stern’s representatives for comment.
Stern is well-known for his turn as “wet bandit” Marv alongside Joe Pesci and Macaulay Culkin in 1990’s Replica Luxury Handbag Alone and its sequel, 1992’s Replica Luxury Handbag Alone 2: Lost in New York.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter in November 2015, Stern opened up about how appearing in the iconic movies has positively impacted his life.
“What a way for me to go through my life when people lose themselves to me in that way,” he told the outlet at the time. “It changed my life; it opened doors for people connecting with me, wanting to tell me about the experience they had in their childhood and passing it on to their children, how they celebrate Christmas, how it made them laugh.”
Stern married his wife, Laure Mattos, in 1980. The couple renewed their vows during a surprise ceremony in a 2019 episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show. Stern and Mattos share three children: daughters Ella and Sophie and son Henry, who is a California senator.
The Wonder Years alum also made headlines in October 2025 when he was hospitalized for an undisclosed medical emergency. TMZ reported that after being assessed by firefighters at his California home and then transported to a nearby hospital, Stern was ultimately released. His rep confirmed the actor was in good health.
