You recently dropped two new songs, “cowboy” and “hold my beer.” Tell me why these songs were the perfect introduction to this new era of music for you.
I have been so excited to start releasing songs from this next era, and it has surprised me in every single way. I can’t wait to peel back those layers. But this felt like the perfect way to start off because it shows a couple different sides of me. On the one hand, I’ve had a tumultuous relationship with love and “cowboy” is mostly about a guy that broke my heart a while ago and took me for a ride. Long story short, it’s about noticing that you’re falling into the same patterns and for the wrong people. Every single line in that song is true.
“hold my beer,” on the other end, has a much more confident, bold message. I was raised by a strong woman. My mom is a firecracker in the best way, and she raised me to be strong as well. That song is really about owning your power. It’s for anyone out there who’s ever been underestimated.
When you’re leading up to Country Music’s Biggest Night, what do you like to do for beauty and wellness to get ready?
There are so many things that go into feeling ready for a night like this and you have to start way ahead of time. A good facial and a good massage are key. As crazy as my schedule is, it’s not always easy to find a place that I can pop into at any given moment, and Massage Envy has been great for that.
Also, it comes down to feeling rested and peaceful. So, breathing exercises, working out, getting a good amount of sleep or as good as I can hope for with my schedule is a huge priority as well.
We know you love Massage Envy and so do we. What are some of your favorite services to get there?
As much as I travel, it’s convenient to be able to pop in when I have a day off at home and get everything done in one place. Taking care of my skin is super important and having the esthetician take a look and tell me what I need in that moment is very helpful.
I also love the massages; with all the travel and sleeping on a bus or on a plane, my body feels it. I try to approach my body the way an athlete does. How they take care of themselves, stretch and target certain muscles. When I feel loose, I perform better and it helps me give 100%. Regular massages go a long way.
Obviously, you spend a lot of time on the road and it’s probably not always the best for skin care. How do you maintain your skin care while you’re touring?
Sticking to a routine has helped me so much. I notice a difference in my skin when I’m able to give it what it needs regularly. I always make sure to take off my makeup after every show. I double cleanse. There are a lot of products I love that help keep my skin hydrated and I try to lean on my estheticians to help me stay one step ahead of it.
