Wedding planning may have both roses and thorns for Charity Lawson and Dotun Olubeko.
“We hopped into it super fast and it was go go go, but then we realized we don’t have to go super heavy,” Lawson, 29, exclusively shared with Luxury Handbag Shopping at the New You Beauty Awards on Saturday, March 29. “It’s just now that we’re back into it. It’s been really enjoyable just really picking out those intimate details.”
One element of their dream wedding that The Bachelorette couple can’t finalize just yet is the number of guests they want at their ceremony.
“I think for us, it’s really about narrowing down the guest list and how many people we want,” Lawson told Us from the 1 Hotel South Beach in Miami. “There’s been so many people that have just played a pivotal role in our love story, and we want everyone there but again it’s like, we also do want a really intimate ceremony.”
As a result, both Lawson and Olubeko, 32, are working on “locking that in” as the planning continues.
“It’s been really, really beautiful,” the bride-to-be explained, “and I think us slowing down has helped us appreciate it a lot more. … It’s easy to get caught up in it and get super stressed, and I realized that early on, which is why I was like, let’s just take a breather.”
Bachelor Nation met Lawson when she appeared on season 27 of The Bachelor with Zach Shallcross. After being eliminated, the former Dancing With the Stars contestant became the lead of The Bachelorette season 20 and got engaged to Olubeko during the season finale.
Although millions of viewers watched her love story unfold, Lawson warned fans that not every aspect of her relationship will be shared online or in public.
“They do have these expectations and I think, sometimes, it is a little unreasonable,” Lawson told Us at the iHeartRadio Music Awards in March. “You kind of have to tune that out because we’re real humans with real lives and not TV characters.”
One thing Lawson is happy to share is her favorite beauty products as she gets wedding ready.
While attending the New You Beauty Awards, Lawson praised Obagi’s vitamin C serum and snail mucin for making her skin look its best.
“I’m trying to leave my house this summer with no makeup, nothing at all,” she said. “I think this is doing the job.”
