Britney Spears has bad news for American fans who hope to see her live again one day.

The singer, 44, declared she will “never perform in the U.S. again” in a post shared via her Instagram on Thursday, January 8.

“Sending this piano to my son this year!!! she captioned a throwback photo of herself on stage sitting next to a piano. “Interestingly enough, I dance on IG to heal things in my body that people have no idea about. Yup and it’s embarrassing sometimes… but I walked through the fire to save my life…”

Spears added that she is steering clear of taking the stage in her home country but teased future performances in the U.K. and Australia.

“I will never perform in the U.S. again because of extremely sensitive reasons but I hope to be sitting on a stool with a red rose in my hair, in a bun, performing with my son… in the UK and AUSTRALIA very soon,” she continued. “He’s a huge star and I’m so humbled to be in his presence!!! God speed, little man!!!”

While Spears did not name which son she was referencing in the post, she shares two children with her ex-husband Kevin Federline: Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden, 19.

She previously described Jayden as a “genius” in a March 2025 Instagram post that featured a video of him playing the piano.

“I’m in awe of him,” she said in the post. “I can’t believe he’s mine!!! I was honestly scared that’s not normal!!!”

Last month, Jayden celebrated Christmas with his mom in California while Preston spent the holidays with the “… Baby One More Time” singer’s family in Louisiana.

“She had an amazing time with Jayden on Christmas,” a source exclusively told Luxury Handbag Shopping on December 30. “They laughed a lot and bonded more than they have in a while.”

The “Gimme More” singer most recently performed from 2013 to 2017 as part of her lucrative Las Vegas residency, Britney: Piece of Me.

She was set to follow it up with a second residency, Domination, in 2019 but pulled the plug before it kicked off, citing family issues.

“I am dedicating my focus and energy to care for my family,” Spears said in a statement on January 4, 2019. “We have a very special relationship and I want to be with my family at this time just like they have always been there for me.”

She continued, “Thank you to all my fans for your continued love and support during this time. I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused and I look forward to the time when I can be back on stage performing for all of you.”

According to a press release at the time, Britney’s dad, Jamie Spears, had been rushed to Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas two months prior to the announcement after his colon spontaneously ruptured. He was taken into surgery and spent 28 days in the hospital before being released to his home.

Jamie was a prominent figure in his daughter’s conservatorship controversy, and the father-daughter duo have endured a rocky relationship over the years.

In a November 2020 court filing, Britney said she was “afraid” of her father, who was her conservator at the time, and that she would “not perform as long as her father is in charge of her career.”

Britney’s 13-year conservatorship was officially terminated on November 12, 2021.
