Anna Wintour and Anne Hathaway leaned into the Devil Wears Prada nostalgia — and hype for the upcoming sequel — while presenting at the 98th annual Academy Awards.

Wintour, 76, and Hathaway, 43, teamed up to present the Oscar for Best Makeup and Hairstyling during the Sunday, March 15, awards ceremony.

“Hair and makeup choices can make a performance come alive,” Hathaway mused. “These delicately balance being bold without being distracting. These five nominated artists are expanses of vision, art and craft.”

The actress then handed the mic to the former Vogue editor in chief, asking, “Anna, would you like to read the nominees?”

Wintour succinctly replied, “Thank you, Emily,” before sharing the honors in the category. The Oscar ultimately went to the Frankenstein team of Mike Hill, Jordan Samuel and Cliona Furey.

The Devil Wears Prada, which was released in 2006, starred Hathaway’s Andie Sachs as the new assistant to a Wintour-like character (played by Meryl Streep). Before Streep’s Miranda Priestly famously dismissed Andie to handle a laundry list of tasks, she briefly paused to examine her staffer’s less-than-stellar style.

“And Emily? That’s all,” Streep said, prompting Hathaway to run out of the room.

Emily is the name of Emily Blunt’s character, who was Miranda’s first assistant to Andie’s second at the fictitious Runway magazine. The film was heavily rumored to be inspired by Vogue and Wintour herself.

“It had a lot of humor to it. It had a lot of wit to it,” Wintour said of the comparisons on The New Yorker’s “Radio Hour” show in September 2025. “It had Meryl Streep. I mean, it [had] Emily Blunt. They were all amazing. In the end, I thought it was a fair shot.”

She continued at the time, “I went to the premiere wearing Prada completely having no idea what the film was going to be about. I think that the fashion industry [was] very sweetly concerned for me about the film, that it was going to paint me in some kind of difficult light … [like] a caricature. But, first of all, it was Meryl Streep, which [was] fantastic. Then, I went to see the film and I found it highly enjoyable and very funny.”

Streep, Hathaway, Blunt and Stanley Tucci also recently reunited for the highly anticipated The Devil Wears Prada 2. Adrian Grenier, who played Andie’s boyfriend in the first movie, did not return.

“I would be bitter if I wasn’t so absolutely thrilled for Anne and the crew, and excited for the sequel myself,” Grenier, 49, exclusively told Luxury Handbag Shopping on Friday, March 13. “I’m a fan of the movie, and so I look forward to seeing the sequel as well. I mean, obviously, I was disappointed [to not return], but you know, I can’t be in everything.”
