A mother in Idaho has been arrested for felony injury to child, and police said she tried to justify “jolting” her 1-week-old daughter by saying that she is “not made of glass.”

Brenwyn Richey reportedly told a witness that “people do it all the time” when she was caught “shaking and jolting” her baby daughter like a rag doll, according to a probable cause affidavit obtained by Law & Crime.

Witnesses allegedly told authorities that they saw Richey, 26, yanking the girl by her leg and bouncing the child aggressively on her knee on several occasions.

Richey was also accused of exhibiting violent behavior while trying to put her daughter to bed beginning when she was 1-week-old and spanning the two months after her birth.

Officers with the Blackfoot Police Department reported to Richey’s apartment after they received a report regarding a domestic disturbance on December 28, 2025. She allegedly roughed up the child and admitted to the responding officers that she was using excessive force, per the affidavit.

“Richey admitted to being ‘aggressive with her baby sometimes,’ specifically stating that she ‘bounces the baby on her leg aggressively’ and places the child on the bed with excessive force or speed,” the affidavit claimed while recounting a conversation Richey had with an officer. “Richey provided physical demonstration of the leg-bouncing, which I observed to be rapid and forceful vertical motion. She acknowledged this behavior was a recurring issue and stated she was ‘trying to work on it.'”

A witness told police that Richey dangled and “yanked” the girl by the leg without proper neck support when she was just 1-week-old. Richey then allegedly told the witness that her daughter was “not made of glass” and “asserted that ‘people do it all the time,'” per the affidavit.

Another witness told police that he saw Richey “shaking the infant,” and he demonstrated the act by “extending his arms and jolting them back and forth, describing a ‘constant jolt’ that would last between five and 15 minutes, or until the infant ceased crying.”

Police were called to Richey’s apartment for a second time on December 29, 2025, and cops called the Child Protective Services to notify them of the alleged abuse. After the agency consulted with the Bonneville County Attorney’s Office, they initiated an emergency removal of Richey’s daughter from her home.

On January 2, police were informed that a medical evaluation was performed on the girl and possible internal injuries were found. “The infant’s eyes appeared abnormally ‘droopy’ for her developmental age,” the affidavit said.

The baby had a follow-up evaluation on January 18, which allegedly revealed she was experiencing “persistent internal swelling of an undetermined cause.”
