A Utah man died by suicide after he allegedly killed his wife and shot his stepchildren.
Unified Police were called to a home in Kearns, Utah, on Monday, March 30, just before 10:30 p.m. Upon their arrival, they found an adult man and adult woman outside the home with gunshot wounds, according to FOX 13.
Officers then heard more gunshots come from inside the home. Once they entered the residence, they found two people dead inside.
Police identified the two people inside the home as 64-year-old Floyd Allred and his wife, 61-year-old Kaylene Allred.
Kaylene placed the original call to 911 and said that a weapon was being used that was originally locked up, according to police. Shots were reportedly heard in the background during the call, and Kaylene told dispatchers that people inside the home had been shot.
More shots were fired as the call continued, and Kaylene eventually stopped responding.
A man and woman found outside of the home have been identified as Kaylene’s grown children. They were transported to the hospital in serious condition after sustaining injuries in the shooting but are now said to be in stable condition. Both the man and woman have spoken with detectives to help with the investigation.
Police said they believe Floyd was the only person who fired a weapon, killing his wife and shooting her children before he died by suicide. All four of the adults involved in the incident lived in the house where the shooting took place.
“I think it’s very important to note the 911 operator did a phenomenal job. You know, unfortunately, it was the last moments of that caller’s life, but it’s difficult on everyone, from family, friends to [those] close on scene,” Unified Police Sgt. Aymee Race said of the case, per FOX 13.
The Unified Police also shared that they had been called to the home on past occasions regarding reports of non-violent domestic incidents. However, officers did not share any additional information about those past visits.
A GoFundMe has been set up to help support Kaylene’s kids following the unimaginable tragedy.
“Kaylene was a dear friend and coworker who brought warmth and kindness to everyone she met. Her sudden and tragic passing due to domestic violence has left a deep void in the lives of her children and all who knew her,” Tanya Metzger wrote in the post. “In the aftermath of this heartbreaking event, Kaylene’s kids were hospitalized and are now facing not only the emotional pain of losing their mother but also the challenge of recovering from their own injuries.”
Metzger added that the “financial burden on Kaylene’s family is overwhelming.”
“The funds raised through this campaign will be used to cover the costs of funeral services, pay for mounting hospital bills, and provide ongoing support for her children as they adjust to life without their mom,” the post continued. “These expenses are more than any family should have to bear alone, and every contribution will help ease their stress during this incredibly difficult time.”
