A California man has been arrested after he allegedly gunned down his wife in front of their son, claiming to police she cheated on him before her death.

Manuel Leal Robles has been charged with first-degree murder following the death of his wife, Ana Karen Robles, in Bakersfield on November 26, 2025. Additionally, he was charged with willful cruelty to child and inflicting corporal injury on spouse/cohabitant, according to jail records viewed by Luxury Handbag Shopping.

Officers with the Bakersfield Police Department received a call at 9:23 p.m. about a possible shooting that had happened, according to KMPH. Responding officers found a woman upon their arrival who was suffering from apparent gunshot wounds, and they say she died at the scene.

According to a police report obtained by People, the couple’s 15-year-old son claimed that both Manuel, 37, and Ana were drinking when they started to argue. Manuel later told police that he drank two bottles of vodka and blacked out, per the report.

The son attempted to intervene in his parents’ fight, and he allegedly found his mother in a fetal position on her bed as Manuel stood over her and pointed a handgun in her direction.

Manuel allegedly shot the gun several times at a safe in the bedroom before he left the room. He then returned with an AR-15 and said that “this is what happens when you cheat.” The son then told police that he shot Ana several times.

After he shot his wife, Manuel allegedly placed the gun’s barrel in his mouth. However, he never pulled the trigger and the son managed to wrestle the gun away from his father and threw it away. The son then allegedly followed Manuel into the kitchen, where he wrestled him away from the knives as he feared that he might try to stab himself.

Manuel then allegedly left the home in his truck. On the same night, police received a call at 9:24 p.m. regarding a car crash at the intersection of Hageman Road and Calloway Drive. It was then determined that the crash was related to the investigation into Ana’s death and Manuel was arrested at the scene of the crash.

The police report stated that Manuel made “spontaneous” statements when he was being taken into custody, which were captured on bodycam video.

“I f**ked up, my wife cheated on me and I f**ked up,” he allegedly said, according to the report. “She made a mistake, and I killed her for it.”

He then allegedly added that she “didn’t deserve that.”

Following Manuel’s arrest, the son allegedly told investigators that his parents regularly fought. He also added that his father had a tendency to become violent and frequently “put holes in the walls” when he drank.

Amid the investigation, it was learned that Manuel discovered his wife allegedly had an affair one month earlier. He then allegedly sent his sister to catch Ana in the act, and she witnessed her with another man.

Manuel has pleaded not guilty to the charges, according to online records viewed by Luxury Handbag Shopping. He is currently being held at Lerdo Justice Facility without bail. He is next scheduled to appear in court on February 11.
