Artist and performer VAYA VAYA is set to release her forthcoming track HELL’ YA on June 25, coinciding with the new moon. The 10-track project emerges from a period of reflection and critique and is framed by the artist as both a personal act of faith and a public statement about the shifting values of the music industry. Released through her independent initiative, ELUSIVE THUGS, the album confronts questions of commercialism, identity, and spiritual discipline in contemporary creative work.
According to VAYA VAYA, HELL,’ YA was conceived in response to what she describes as the music industry’s accelerating cycle of production and consumption—a model she characterizes as the “Kleenex effect,” where artists are rapidly elevated and discarded. Rather than positioning herself within this model, the artist explains that her music stems from a more profound sense of responsibility, describing herself not as an entertainer but as a vessel for something beyond her own intention. “Everything I do apostatizes to God. I am only His receptacle,” she noted in a recent statement. This perspective guides the structure and content of the album, which blends personal theology with socio-cultural critique.
Lyrically, HELL’ YA engages with both spiritual and worldly themes, often in tension. Tracks such as “BUMP IT!” offer a combination of satire, sacred allusion, and confrontation. Meanwhile, the line “Take the Devil by the toe” plays with familiar idioms to introduce themes of spiritual battle and moral resistance. These lyrics reflect a broader approach to songwriting that avoids strict genre boundaries in favor of layered meaning.
Thematically, the album explores how art operates within systems of power and whether it can be preserved as a space for honesty and depth in the face of increasing commodification. For VAYA VAYA, HELL’ YA is not a rejection of the industry outright but a deliberate redirection. She proposes that art, particularly music, should serve as a form of expression—something that speaks truthfully and aligns with ethical and spiritual commitments rather than market demands.

The live component of the project is scheduled to unfold in a three-day performance series at Toronto’s Tranzac Club from September 18 to 20. These performances, currently in rehearsal, are not described by the artist as conventional concerts. Instead, they are intended to function as extensions of the album’s conceptual framework, integrating sound, presence, and ritual. VAYA VAYA views these events as opportunities for embodied engagement, where audiences encounter music as an experience rather than as background or entertainment.
With HELL’ YA, VAYA VAYA adds to an ongoing dialogue about the place of faith, purpose, and resistance in the creative process. Through the album and its surrounding efforts, she raises questions about the costs of visibility, the meanings of success, and the responsibilities of artists navigating today’s cultural and commercial landscapes.
