Black, white, and gold Chanel lovers, rejoice. The latest Chanel collectsion centers on these classic hues. The Chanel Métiers d’Art 2020 collectsion, also known as Pre-Fall 2020, is head designer Virginie Viard’s first solo Métiers collectsion since the death of icon Karl Lagerfeld last winter.

With a set co-designed by Hollywood director Sofia Coppola, Viard transformed Paris’s Grand Palais into salons of Coco Chanel’s famed apartment at 31 Rue Cambon. Her designs honored and employed classic Chanel symbols like camellias, chains, double CCs, and bows, to name a few.

As you may recall, the Métier collectsions are Chanel’s opportunity to showcase its esteemed specialty couture ateliers. Accordingly, creations featured the craftsmanship of its feather and flower maker (Lemarie) and embroiderers (Lesage and Atelier Montex), among others.

Ensembles hewed classic although still current. Much of it was black and white. And the bags seemed very much a part of the entire looks – even when they did not attract much attention.

A Mini (Mini) Classic Flap

Of course, there were a couple of standout handbags. The first is nearly certain to be a hit. Following the apparent race to the smallest bag of all, Viard showcased and repeated a wee classic flap.

The Gilded Birdcage

And then there’s the one not to be missed: the gilded birdcage – albeit without any feathered friend (we think, lol!).

A Few Stand-Outs

Lest you think everything is black and white, it’s not. Well, one cutie is a black and white oval. But you’ll see some pink, red, tweeds, and some tie-dye inspired fabric. The styles are pretty classic – variations on Chanel bags we’ve come to love, most with leather/chains straps.

What do you think of the latest Métiers d’Art collectsion? And more importantly, are you impressed (or disappointed) with Viard’s version and vision of Chanel going forward?
