Though Giuliana underwent multiple IVF treatments and suffered a miscarriage, she and Bill never gave up on their quest to have children. "We've learned so much about each other," Giuliana told Us in February 2011. "So maybe that's what was supposed to happen."

In February 2012, the couple opened their first restaurant, RPM Italian, in Chicago. "My mom will regularly be around at the restaurant so diners will get a chance to have my mama feed them just like she's been feeding me my whole life," Giuliana said on E! News. "She's really been amazing throughout this process giving us ideas and inspiration."

After years of struggling to conceive a child, a cancer-free Giuliana announced she and Bill will welcome their first biological child via gestational surrogate in late summer 2012. "The last year and a half we'd been having people come up to us and shed tears and cry," Bill told Us. "It's so nice now to be crying tears of joy. It couldn't be better."
