After filming wrapped for The Amazing Spider-Man costars Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone, their on-screen romance continued off the set. In June 2011 — one month after Garfield split with his girlfriend of three years, Shannon Woodward — sources confirmed to Us that he and Stone were an item. (In NYC on Nov. 20, 2011)
The Amazing Spider-Man costars shared a knowing glance during the flick's press conference in Japan on Jan. 18, 2012. The week before at the Critics' Choice Awards, Stone gushed to BuzzSugar about her leading man. "He's incredibly talented and intelligent and intuitive. It means so much to him to be playing this part and just get to walk in Peter Parker's shoes," she said. "A lot of times you dream about things and they pale in comparison when you actually do them, but it's better."
"Andrew is one of the most giving actors I've ever worked with," Stone raved of her beau in a September 2011 interview with Teen Vogue. "If I needed to get to a place of love or sadness in a scene, he'd leave messages on my phone to replay, or slip in lines off camera for a different reaction than what was scripted. He gave me so much to react to." (In NYC on May 3, 2012)
"We got on really well as people, in between [takes]," the actor shared with MTV News in June. "That was the fun stuff: In between, we'd just mess around and I felt, 'Ah, this is different.' I wasn't really aware of what was happening in the screen test. She keeps you on your toes and that wakes you up. That was the beginning." (In Madrid, Spain on June 21, 2012.)
Garfield and Stone showed off their silly sides during an event in NYC on June 26, 2012. "I love stupid movies," the actor explained to Total Film in July. "I love stupid everything really, I need a lot of stupidity in my life. For some reason I work on very austere, serious stuff, but stupid stuff is my favorite."
Garfield gave his girlfriend a sweet kiss while attending the 2013 Peace, Love & A Cure Triple Negative Breast Cancer Foundation Benefit on May 21, 2013 in Cresskill, New Jersey. Stone's mother, Krista, is a breast cancer survivor, and joined the couple at the event.
