Although they were both married to other people at the time, Taylor and Richard Burton fell in love on the 1962 set of their epic Cleopatra. After divorcing their respective spouses to tabloid uproar, they wed in 1964, divorced in 1974, remarried in 1975 -- and finally split for good in 1976!
Taylor met with Israel's Prime Minister Menahem Begin and other officials in Jerusalem on September 19, 1979. A few years later, she became one of the first and fiercest AIDS activists and fundraisers, helping found AmFAR and later her own Elizabeth Taylor AIDS/HIV Foundation.
