The WWE wrestler died of natural causes on July 31. The movie producer behind hits like The Karate Kid and Ocean’s Eleven died at age 77 on July 6. His cause of death was cardiac arrest. "In the coming days there will be tributes, about our friend Jerry Weintraub. We’ll laugh at his great stories, and applaud his accomplishments," George Clooney said in a statement. Dean Jones, the actor perhaps best known for playing race-car driver Jim in 1968’s The Love Bug, died on Sept. 1. He was 84. According to his publicist, Jones’ movies grossed a total of more than $960 million. The Everybody Loves Raymond star died of suicide at the age of 19 while visiting his family in Texas on April 23. He was best known for starring alongside his twin brother Sullivan and his sister Madylin in the beloved comedy from 1996 to 2005. "This morning a terrible family tragedy has occurred. We are devastated to report that our beloved brother, son, and friend, Sawyer Sweeten, took his own life," Madylin told Us in a statement. "He was weeks away from his 20th birthday."

The first wife of John Lennon died on April 1 at the age of 75, after losing her battle with cancer. She was survived by her musician son Julian Lennon. John Lennon’s former Beatles bandmate Paul McCartney released a special message in honor of Cynthia, writing, "The news of Cynthia's passing is very sad. She was a lovely lady who I've known since our early days together in Liverpool. She was a good mother to Julian and will be missed by us all, but I will always have great memories of our times together."

The beloved ESPN anchor died after a long battle with cancer on Jan. 4 at the age of 49. Many of his coworkers and fans viewed him as an inspiration. Months before his death, Scott accepted the Jimmy V Award for Perseverance, saying in his speech, "When you die, it does not mean that you lose to cancer. The famed New York Times columnist was pronounced dead after he collapsed in the paper's newsroom on Feb. 12. Carr was a popular media reporter, and shortly after his passing, executive editor Dean Baquet sent a memo to the staff, saying, "He was the finest media reporter of his generation, a remarkable and funny man who was one of the leaders of our newsroom."

The Mexican actress and singer lost her battle to cancer on Feb. 16 at the age of 44. The telenovela star had previously fought the disease in both 2008 and 2012. In addition to her roles in television, Rojas also released three albums between 2001 and 2014. She is survived by her daughter Luciana.

The original Spock from Star Trek died on Feb. 27 at age 83. He passed due to "end-stage chronic obstructive pulmonary disease," his wife Susan Bay Nimoy revealed at the time. Nimoy played Spock in the film's numerous remakes, mostly recently in the reboots headed up by Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto. After his death, Nimoy was honored by fans and costars, and The Big Bang Theory shared a shot of the actor in its credits, writing, "The impact you had on our show and on our lives is everlasting."

The member of the '90s girl group Brownstone died on Feb. 28 at age 46. Though an exact cause of death was never released, TMZ reported that the singer's passing was a shocking accident, involving her falling backward off a deck and onto a broken wine glass. Brownstone was an all-female R&B trio, which was signed under Michael Jackson's MJJ Music label. The group was best known for its 1994 single, "If You Love Me."

The Simpsons co-creator and outspoken animal rights activist died at age 59 on March 8 after suffering from colon cancer. Simon was initially diagnosed in 2012 and only given at most six months to live. Prior to his death, Simon vowed to leave his $100 million fortune to charity. In Nov. 2014, he told Maria Shriver, "I feel great. Somehow I ended up surrounded by people that love me and take care of me and would do anything for me. It's a good feeling."

The director of the Oscar-winning film Still Alice died at age 63 on March 10, just three weeks after Julianne Moore accepted the Academy Award in the film he wrote and directed with his husband Wash Westmoreland. Glatzer was battling ALS. Following his husband's death, Westmoreland released a statement, saying, "Rich was my soul mate, my collaborator, my best friend and my life. Seeing him battle ALS for four years with such grace and courage inspired me and all who knew him."

Food Network star Cristie Codd and her husband JT Codd were brutally murdered by their neighbor Robert Jason Owens, who admitted to the crime after human remains were found in Owens' woodstove. He claimed to have hit JT with his truck, but no details have been released on how he killed Cristie, who was five months pregnant at the time of her death. Cristie competed on season 8 of Food Network Star.

Actor, senator, and former presidential candidate Fred D. Thompson died from a recurrence of lymphoma on Sunday, Nov. 1, his family said in a statement. He portrayed DA Arthur Branch on NBC's long-running crime drama Law & Order, with his character also making appearances in the franchise's spin-offs Special Victims Unit, Criminal Intent, and Trial by Jury. In addition to serving as a Republican senator for Tennessee, Thompson was also one of the Watergate investigators, and a 2008 presidential hopeful.

The older brother of Kristin Cavallari was found dead in Salt Wash, Utah on December 10. His body was discovered in a “steep and very rocky area,” according to police and his death was most likely due to exposure and frigid weather. “My heart is in a million pieces,” Hills star and shoe designer Kristin said in an Instagram post. “Mikey, I could always count on you to make me laugh. You had such a good heart and will be forever missed. I'm at a loss for words but I know u are in a better place and finally at peace. I love u so much RIP." Michael was 30 at the time of his death.

The E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial screenwriter and ex-wife of actor Harrison Ford passed away on November 4 at the age of 65. Mathison had been battling neuroendocrine cancer. "Melissa had a heart that shined with generosity and love and burned as bright as the heart she gave E.T.,” Steven Spielberg told The Hollywood Reporter following her death.

The TV personality, actor and model died on October 26 of an apparent suicide. Sarpong spent seven hours talking to police from a bridge before jumping and ending his life at the age of 40. He was known as a cohost of MTV’s Yo Momma and a former Tommy Hilfiger spokesmodel. Fellow cohost Wilmer Valderrama later wrote of his friend’s passing, “I am so sad & so confused.”

The tattoo artist and Ink Master season 4 victor — he won $100,000 on the network reality competition in 2014 — died on October 23 at the age of 41. A toxicology report later revealed that Marshall had suffered an accidental heroin overdose.
