Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie met with two Iraqi refugee families on Friday in the Syrian capital of Damascus.

Jolie got emotional when speaking with Hoda, a woman who had been kidnapped and assaulted twice. "There's a lot of suffering in this part of the world; you're a very brave and strong woman for putting this behind you for the sake of your children," Jolie said.

Pitt spoke with Ibtissam, a teacher who has resorted to cleaning homes to make ends meet, in the one-room basement apartment she shares with her family of seven.

Jolie also met with Syria's President Bashar al-Assad and his wife, Asma al-Assad, to discuss the country's efforts to provide health care and an education to refugee children.
