Tom Cruise broke his silence on the death of his late Top Gun costar Val Kilmer, who died of pneumonia on Tuesday, April 1, at age 65. “I’d like to honor a dear friend of mine, Val Kilmer, for a moment,” Cruise, 62, began during an appearance at CinemaCon in Las Vegas on Thursday, April 3. “I can’t tell you how much I admired his work.” Cruise then asked the audience to join him in a moment of silence for Kilmer, saying, “If we just all take a moment to remember the wonderful time we had with him — let’s just take a moment.” After the brief remembrance, Cruise added, “I wish you well on your next journey.” Cruise and Kilmer famously portrayed rival fighter pilots Pete “Maverick” Mitchell and Tom “Iceman” Kazansky in the 1986 blockbuster Top Gun, which was directed by the late Tony Scott.
