Todd and Julie Chrisley broke their silence on the death of daughter Savannah Chrisley’s ex-fiancé, Nic Kerdiles.
“So a lot of the questions were, ‘Why have you not talked about Nic on the podcast yet?’ Well, that’s very simple, because it is still very fresh to me,” Todd, 56, said during the Wednesday, August 20, episode of the “Chrisley Confessions 2.0” podcast. “My heart has not healed, and I don’t know that it ever will heal — and I don’t feel like I owe that to you. I don’t feel like I owe it to anyone to talk about how I feel about him today vs. how I felt about him when he lost his life.”
Todd told listeners that he has been “putting off” having this conversation because it’s “still very painful” to talk about Kerdiles’ death.
“I just wasn’t ready to discuss it,” he added. “I’m actually not ready to discuss it today, but out of respect for Nic and the love that we have for him today and will have for him for the rest of our days, I’m going to have this conversation one time, and I’m never talking about it again.”
Kerdiles died at age 29 in September 2023 following a motorcycle crash. Savannah, 28, was visiting Todd at FPC Pensacola when she found out about Kerdiles’ death.
“Out of respect for the love that we have for him, I will tell you, it was the hardest thing that I have ever dealt with in my life,” Todd continued. “For those of you who don’t know, Nic Kerdiles was one of the finest, funniest, kindest young men, and I so wanted he and Savannah to be married. I wanted grandchildren, and that didn’t come to pass.”
Savannah and Kerdiles got engaged in 2019 after two years together. They split in 2020, putting their wedding planning on hold before briefly reconciling. The former couple ended their relationship in 2021.
“Even when they broke up, I still had lunch with Nic,” Todd said. “I still talked to Nic every day.”
Julie chimed in, noting that Kerdiles supported Todd throughout their entire trial.
“He and Savannah were no longer together, but he was still there for us,” Todd said. (Todd and Julie spent 28 months in prison after being convicted of tax evasion and bank and wire fraud in 2022. They were pardoned by President Donald Trump in May and released from prison.)
“There’s not a day that goes by that I don’t think of him,” Todd added. “I think I still grieve what could have been because I had always hoped that they would find their way back.”
